2 roofers flown to hospital for chain-reaction crash in Catawba County

Two people headed to a roofing job in Catawba County were flown to the hospital Wednesday morning after a serious crash.

Channel 9′s Dave Faherty arrived at the scene around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, along Highway 16 near Balls Creek Road.

The crash involved a work van and a furniture truck. Troopers said the van, filled with seven roofers, was heading north on Highway 16 when it slammed into the back of a furniture truck. The van was also pulling a trailer.

According to highway patrol, the people in the front of the van were able to get out of the vehicle with help from the people in the back. The two workers in the front were seriously hurt and were flown to the hospital.

The workers were all headed to a roofing job in Catawba County.

Troopers rerouted traffic around the crash scene while they investigated.

Investigators did not say if anyone will be charged in the crash.
