2 Sauk Rapids-Rice teachers named candidates for 2022 Minnesota Teacher of the Year

SAUK RAPIDS — Two Sauk Rapids-Rice Public Schools teachers are candidates for 2022 Minnesota Teacher of the Year.

Trisha Bemboom and Tina Douvier are two of 77 candidates for the annual award. This year marks the 58th Minnesota Teacher of the Year award, according to a press release from Education Minnesota.

According to a press release from Sauk Rapids-Rice Public Schools from late 2021, Bemboom was selected as the district's secondary teacher of the year and Douvier was the district's elementary teacher of the year.

Bemboom teaches at Sauk Rapids-Rice High School. She has taught in the district for 22 years.

Douvier teaches kindergarten at Rice Elementary School. She has taught in the district for 12 years.

Candidates for Minnesota Teacher of the Year can be educators from public or private schools and teach anywhere from prekindergarten to 12th grade, as well as early childhood family education or adult basic education.

A panel will narrow the group of candidates to a selection of semifinalists. In March, the panel will reconvene to select finalists.

The Minnesota Teacher of the Year banquet is scheduled for May 1 in St. Paul, but could be postponed, according to the press release from Education Minnesota.
