Woman dies after double shooting in Portsmouth; man seriously injured
A 37-year-old woman has died after a double shooting early Monday morning in Portsmouth, police said.
Charkela Y. Branch was one of two people shot around 2 a.m. near the near the 10th block of Jenkins Place.
Branch and an unidentified man were transported to a local hospital, where Branch later died. The second victim was in critical condition as of Monday evening.
Portsmouth police are investigating the incident as a homicide. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to submit an anonymous crime line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
