PROVIDENCE, RI — Center for Covid Control, an Illinois-based company with 300 testing centers around the country, announced Thursday that they are pausing all operations for at least a week. They plan to reopen Jan. 22.

There are two locations in Rhode Island, one in Smithfield and the other in West Warwick.

"We've made this difficult decision to temporarily pause all operations until we are confident that all collection sites are meeting our high standards for quality," Centers for Covid Control founder and CEO Aleyo Siyaj said.

"Center for Covid Control is committed to serving our patients in the safest, most accurate and most compliant manner. Regrettably, due to our rapid growth and the unprecedented recent demand for testing, we haven't been able to meet all our commitments."

The company has been under scrutiny nationwide following reports from disgruntled customers calling the tests sites a scam. At least four states including Massachusetts, Oregon, Washington and California have opened investigations.

Center for Covid Control currently has an F rating on the BBB's website, along with a one-star rating and five registered complaints from the public.

The company describes itself as "a distinctive organization applying the highest level of service in the fight against SARS – coV-2 (Covid-19) by offering varying forms of testing" on its "About" page.

"We are partnered with a CDC approved & licensed laboratory which is registered with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)," the description continues. "Safeguarding the health of everyone during these times is of utmost importance, we are on a mission to help stop the spread of the virus. Giving people the comfort that they need to be around one another by getting tested regularly. By taking all the necessary precautions together we can bring an end to this virus."
