2 snowmobilers rescued after breaking through ice on Mantua Reservoir

BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Crews rescued two snowmobilers Friday morning after they broke through the ice on a reservoir in northern Utah.

The Brigham City Police Department said a 911 call came into county dispatch around 10:40 a.m. regarding two snowmobilers going through the ice in the northeast area of Mantua Reservoir.

Crews from several nearby departments responded, and Brigham City firefighters were able to help the snowmobilers off the ice.

They were identified as two men, one from Brigham City and another from Logan. Both were brought to Brigham City Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officials are asking the public to stay off the ice on the northeast side of the reservoir, as the ice there is thin and compromised due to efforts to save the snowmobilers.

Mantua Reservoir is located near the town of Mantua, roughly 60 miles north of Salt Lake City.
