2 suspects arrested after undercover MSP trooper critically wounded in Detroit shooting

A Michigan State Police undercover narcotics trooper conducting surveillance in the 14000 block of Riverview in Detroit came under fire at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and was shot, authorities said. For hours, police asked the public to stay clear of the area and by about 8:30 a.m., two suspects had been arrested.

The trooper, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is in critical condition, police said.

Earlier, police urged residents in the area — which is near Telegraph Road and Interstate 96 — to stay in their homes as a safety precaution and that there was concern that an armed standoff would unfold.

Michigan State Police said on Twitter it had evacuated the apartment building where the shooter appeared to be and had attempted "to make contact with any suspects located in the building from where the shots may have been fired" and was keeping an eye on the area from the air with an aviation unit.

Later, the police said, the apartment building had been searched, gun casings were found and two suspects were in custody.

However, police also tweeted: "The situation is still very fluid and investigation continues."
