2 taken to area hospitals after semi-truck crash in Springfield

Driver in custody after fleeing from OSHP state troopers during traffic stop

Two men were injured after a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck in Springfield Thursday night.

According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, crews were called to a crash on State Route 72 at West Jackson Road in Clark County just before 10:30 p.m.

Officer’s preliminary investigation shows a commercial tractor-trailer driven by Dwight A Newtand, 63, from Circleville, was driving down SR-72 when a Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Westly Baughman, 19, from Springfield, was going east on Jackson Rd.

Baughman failed to yield from a stop sign and drove into the path of Newtand.

Newtand was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by medical helicopter.

Baughman’s passenger, Eliot Stevens,18, from Springfield, was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center for his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, according to OSHP.
