Boy, 16, dead after Avalon Park shooting, police say

A 16-year-old boy has died after being shot Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Ameer McMullin, of the 10500 block of Yates Avenue in South Deering, was pronounced dead at 5:47 p.m. Monday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was one of two teenage boys shot within an hour of one another in Avalon Park Monday afternoon, Chicago police said.

Police did not say whether the shootings were related.

Someone shot McMullin in the back and right leg just before 4 p.m. in a parking lot in the 1900 block of East 87th Street, police said.

About an hour after McMullin was shot, at 4:50 p.m., police said someone approached a 14-year-old boy in the 7600 block of South Chicago Avenue and shot him in the thigh. The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition.
