2 teens die after early morning Hartford crash; passenger in critical condition

Two young men, aged 17 and 19, died when their car hit a tree just after midnight on Tower Avenue in Hartford on Saturday morning.

A back-seat passenger was brought to a local hospital, where he is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The men were found deceased at the scene, and have been identified as 17-year-old Omar Lawrence, the driver, and 19-year-old Shamar Williams, the front seat passenger. Both were Hartford residents.

Hartford patrol officers responded at 12:32 a.m. to a report of a crash near Tower Avenue, west of Waverly Street. They discovered that a black 2005 Acura TL had run off the road and hit a tree.

The cause of the crash is unclear. Detectives from the Crime Scene Division are investigating. Anyone with information regarding the crash can call Detective James Fierravanti or the Hartford Police Department Tip Line at (860) 722-8477.
