2 teens killed in Lynn County crash; O'Donnell ISD issues statement

Two O'Donnell teens have been killed and a third was injured after a late Wednesday night rollover crash, according to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Law enforcement determined that at about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado had been driving west on FM 2053 about a mile northeast of O'Donnell. The pickup drifted into the eastbound lane and into the south ditch, according to the report.

The driver overcorrected to the right, bringing the pickup into the east, then westbound lane. The pickup then overcorrected to the left, sending it into a side skid southwest across the road and into the ditch. It rolled before coming to a stop, according to the report.

Two passengers were killed — Jadyn Taylor Boyd, 18, and one unnamed 15-year-old girl. The driver, another 15-year-old girl, was taken to UMC in Lubbock with incapacitating injuries, according to the release. No one in the truck was wearing a seatbelt.

At 10:45 p.m. Thursday, O'Donnell ISD issued a statement on social media stating that all events and semester tests scheduled for Thursday would be canceled. The district said counselors would be available for everyone in the community and called for prayers and support.

"We regret to inform you that there has been an accident involving O'Donnell ISD students," the post stated. "The school will be open tomorrow at the regular time and buses will run but we will not be taking attendance. All events and semester tests scheduled for tomorrow are cancelled. We will have counselors available at both the elementary and secondary campuses. The counselors will arrive at 9:00 and will be available for students, parents, faculty, staff and community members. O'Donnell has continued to love and support one another through difficult times, and we will once again need to support and pray for each other during this time. The district will seek to support families involved in any way possible."

The district announced Thursday morning that Friday's classes are canceled. Classes will resume Jan. 4 following Christmas break.
