2 Virus Deaths; Info On Stratford Fatality Rate, Nursing Homes

STRATFORD, CT — Two more deaths were reported Friday in Stratford in connection with the new coronavirus, according to the mayor's office, bringing the total number of virus-associated fatalities to 59.

As of Friday, there were 639 cases confirmed in town, Mayor Laura Hoydick said in the email to residents. Of those, 9 percent of patients were dead, 2 percent were hospitalized, 11 percent were ill and 58 percent had recovered or were recovering, according to town data. The other 20 percent of patients were unreachable.

Of the nearly 60 deaths in town, at least 26 involved patients of the Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, according to data released Thursday by the state. Additionally, more than half of the residents at the Spring Village at Stratford assisted living community have been diagnosed with the virus, according to the state, which did not released death totals for assisted living facilities.

The number of positive virus tests by week tested went up slightly in Stratford for the week of April 26, the town reported Friday, after declining by nearly 50 percent week-over-week the week of April 19.

At the state level, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases increased Friday by 627 to 32,411 and the number of deaths rose by 77 to 2,874. Also, the number of new hospital admissions declined by 49 to 1,327 in Connecticut. As of Friday, 120,541 residents had been tested for the virus.
