OLIVE TWP. — Two local women were hospitalized after a crash Sunday morning on US-31 in Olive Township, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to US-31 at Port Sheldon Street in Olive Township just before 11:30 Sunday morning to investigate a two-vehicle crash. Once at the scene, the Sheriff's Office investigation determined that a Ford Explorer, driven by a 57-year-old Grand Haven woman, was heading south on US-31 and stopped for a red traffic light. While she was stopped, deputies said it was hit from behind by a GMC Acadia, which was driven by a 52-year-old West Olive woman.

The unidentified Grand Haven woman was taken to Holland Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC was also taken to Holland Hospital, but only suffered minor injures.

The southbound lanes of US-31 were closed for one hour for the investigation and cleanup. All lanes are now open. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.

Olive Township Fire / Rescue and AMR Ambulance assisted the Sheriff's Office at the scene.
