2 wounded in shootings at El Cometa restaurant, Cincinnati district in El Paso

El Paso police are investigating a shooting that wounded a man early Saturday at a late-night taco restaurant on the East Side.

A 38-year-old man was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound that was not believed to be life threatening following a shooting at about 2:45 a.m. at Taqueria El Cometa at 9529 Viscount Blvd. next to Interstate 10, a police spokesman said.

The restaurant chain, known for its flautas, is open daily until 4 a.m., and is a well-known spot for eating after a night of partying.

The shooting occurred during an altercation between two men outside the restaurant, police said.

A cellphone video on social media shows a man and a woman standing outside in front of one of the restaurant's windows when a second man exits a door and grabs a hold of the first man before a brief struggle and a gunshot rings out. The second man ends up lying on his stomach on the asphalt as the camera cuts away.

The case is under investigation by detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit. The unknown shooter had yet to be arrested, police said Sunday morning.
