'20/20' will feature Diane Staudte, Springfield woman who killed husband and son with antifreeze

In 2012, Mark and Shaun Staudte died six months apart of natural causes, or so everyone thought.

In the years following, it would be revealed that Diane Staudte, Mark's wife and Shaun's mother, with the help of her daughter Rachel Staudte, actually murdered Mark and Shaun with antifreeze and attempted to kill her other daughter, Sarah Staudte, the same way.

Diane Staudte is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole, and Friday night she will appear on ABC's "20/20" for an interview from prison with ABC News senior national affairs correspondent Deborah Roberts.

Diane Staudte confessed to the poisonings after Sarah was hospitalized when the family's pastor tipped off the police that there may be more to Mark and Shaun's deaths than meets the eye.

Diane and Rachel Staudte, who pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in 2016, told police in interviews they poisoned their family members by putting antifreeze in their Gatorade and Coca-Cola.

Rachel Staudte, who had agreed to testify against her mother if necessary and is also serving a life sentence but will be up for parole after serving 42 and a half years, told police they chose antifreeze because they believed it would be harder for a medical examiner to detect.

Rachel Staudte also told police that it was her mother who initially brought up the idea and she went along with it. In an interview with police, she also explained the motives for poisoning her family as follows:

"As far as Dad, it was for a little peace."

"Shaun, because he was annoying" and "worse than a pest."

"Sarah was just nosy. Very nosy."
