Whether you've been together with that special someone for 50 days or 50 years, it takes a little planning to set the mood just right on Valentine's Day.
Of course there are roses, chocolates, promises you don't intend to keep and/or an endless loop of "Islands in the Stream," by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, but probably the most important thing is that dining destination.

This north county hot spot will be offering a three-course prix fixe menu from 6 to 9 p.m. on Valentine's Day. For the appetizer there will be a choice of shishito peppers with a cilantro citrus crema or pork belly with mashed plantains; entree choices are braised beef with natural juices, wood roasted vegetables and a potato-cauliflower puree or pan roasted mahi with potatoes, carrots, peppers; and finally dessert is either a churros sundae or dark chocolate mousse with raspberries, caramel and macadamia nuts.

1000 NORTH, Jupiter
Valentine's Day specials at this waterfront destination will include a vodka-cured scallop crudo for $42, a crab-crusted prime rib filet for $85 and a lemon cheesecake Napoleon for $18. A special cocktail for Valentine's Day will also be available from Friday, Feb. 10 through Valentine's Day. The Goodnight Kiss is $18 and made with Tito's Vodka, strawberry cream, dark chocolate liquor, chocolate drizzle and a chocolate-covered strawberry.

Charlie & Joe's at Love Street, Jupiter
If dinner isn't your thing, executive pastry chef Jennifer Woo has created "Be Mine" Smash Heart Boxes. Each includes a chocolate heart filled with homemade assorted candies, a wooden mallet and six chocolate-covered strawberries. They are $50 with sales through Feb. 6. Pickup is Feb. 13 and 14 from noon to 4 p.m.

Blackbird Modern Asian, Jupiter
Inspired by the Far East, this Valentine's Day menu features a four-course, prix fixe menu with a complimentary glass of champagne. Following the amuse bouche, the first course is wok-charred edamame. For course two, guests can choose between tuna crispy rice, Thai beef satay, vegetable spring roll, spicy pork wontons or Mongolian brisket buns. Course three will feature either New York strip steak and broccoli, tamarind-glazed Faroe Island salmon, king crab fried rice with five vegetables, orange chicken or chow fun with shiitake, wild Cantonese rice noodle. Finally, for dessert, guests can pick either the ginger-raspberry s’more with toasted ginger marshmallow or banana-pineapple foster with yuzu lemon cake.

In Palm Beach, Almond will feature a “Shades of Red” blood orange-themed Valentine’s menu. This four-course menu features hits savory and sweet notes. The first course will feature a choice of red snapper crudo or iced Beausoleil Oysters (non-meat eaters can indulge in a warm, Ricotta Ravioli). Following a winter salad, the main will be a tough choice between royal red shrimp al ajillo, shawarma-spiced rack of lamb or General Tso’s eggplant. For dessert, patrons can choose between a refreshing tropical fruit and house made yogurt drizzled with strawberries and sugar cane or a nutty pecan pie trifle featuring white chocolate pink peppercorn bark. This menu will be available on Tuesday, Feb. 14 during dinner service. $90 per person. Please note, the daily dinner menu will not be available. Reservations are highly encouraged.

Though this is technically the night before Valentine's Day and you could attend it with just a friend, cut me some slack, quit your crying and have a really fun time at the Galley Galentine's Day Cocktail Experience. Galley's celebrated lead mixologist Hauk Cornell will teach attendees a bit of history as well as show them how to execture variations of three signature Valentine's Day-inspired cocktails. There will also be a glass of bubbly and a 20% discount to dinner reservation. The event is 5 and 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13. Tickets are $40 and reservation is required.
