A sparkly slip dress is a holiday classic, but finding the right shoe can be tricky. You can’t risk frostbite in a strappy sandal, and pumps can look wrong with a barely-there frock. Consider Erdem Moralioglu’s styling hack and toughen up the look with chunky boots.

As we close in on the final days of 2018, your calendar is likely jam-packed with holiday parties. You might even have two (or three) scheduled for the same night. Aside from figuring out your party-hopping strategy (and how to avoid those Uber surges), the big question is, of course, what you’re going to wear. For most of us, holiday parties and New Year’s Eve are the only opportunities to really go for it with glitz, glitter, and all-out glamour. It’s now or never! But between end-of-year work deadlines, gift-shopping for your loved ones, and hectic travel schedules, there’s hardly time to buy yourself a new party dress.

So we’re looking to the just-released Pre-Fall collections for some helpful holiday inspiration: At Oscar de la Renta, for instance, designers Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim suggested updating an LBD with furry (and flat!) sandals, while Joseph Altuzarra spiced up a sweaterdress with snakeskin heels and lots of gold jewelry. Women who prefer suits should go the festive route with an emerald green two-piece like Wes Gordon’s at Carolina Herrera.

Speaking of color-coordinating, other designers have inspired us to wear one shade from head to toe. At Brock Collection, a ruby-red crinkled silk dress was styled with glossy red pumps, and Prabal Gurung made the case for matching your sequined dress to your shoes—and the chunky knit draped around your shoulders. Find these and more holiday style tips in the slideshow above, and prepare to leave 2018 behind in spectacular fashion. (We don’t know about you, but we’re ready to say goodbye—and we have a good feeling about 2019.)
