These 20 metro Detroit restaurants are open on Christmas Day
Christmas Day is less than a week away. And if you haven't given any thought to Christmas dinner, we've got you covered.
You can give yourself a break and leave the cooking to someone else.
Around metro Detroit, many restaurants will be open on Christmas Day. Several of the restaurants listed below will be serving special holiday meals, offering prix fixe menus or letting you order off their regular menus.
Some places will also offer holiday meal to-go options and many also have special holiday menus on Christmas Eve.
Here's a sampling of restaurants that are open. If you're ordering to go, be sure to order in advance when you can. If you're dining in, keep in mind hours may vary and it’s best to make reservations.

Apparatus Room at Foundation Hotel
Detroit
Offering an extended brunch menu 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are healthy offerings, egg specialties including breakfast sandwiches and Benedicts, salads, sandwiches and plenty of sides.

Bavarian Inn
Frankenmuth
At the Bavarian Inn restaurant, a take-out Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meal is $159 and serves 4. On Christmas Day there are four dinner options served family-style from noon to 7 p.m., from the ultimate Bavarian dinner which includes a sampling of five meats to the all-you-can-eat Frankenmuth-style chicken dinner with ham and shrimp options. Prices vary from $32.99-$39.99 for adults, $2.25-$10.99 ages 5-12. Meals are served with all the trimmings. Other individual dinner options will be available. The Bavarian Inn Lodge will have a Christmas Eve and Christmas Day buffet available 4:30-9 p.m.

Inside the Daxton Hotel in downtown Birmingham. Prix fixe four-course menu is $120 per person from appetizer to main dish to dessert. The main course is a choice of bone-in, herb-crusted prime rib or Dover sole, a la meuniere.

Open noon to 8 p.m. featuring its regular menu along with holiday specials. There’s prime rib, seafood scampi, filet and lobster all served with side dishes.

Christmas Day special dinner will be available along with Rugby Grille's regular dinner menu. Dinner special features wild mushroom ravioli, arugula and pear salad, and Townsend prime rib. Dinner is served 5-10 p.m., and a brunch is offered 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This long-standing steakhouse offers the prix fixe Ruth's Classics menu. The menu features a start of steak house or Caesar salad or lobster bisque, two entrees to choose from (steak and shrimp or surf and turf), a side and chef's seasonal dessert.

You can also order chef Andrew Carmellini's Christmas takeaway multi-course feast for pickup.

This newly opened, Mediterranean-inspired fine dining restaurant is inside the Atheneum Suite Hotel and Conference Center. Order a special Christmas Eve dinner or off the regular menu 4-9 p.m. The special is crispy confit duck leg served with “pretzel” spätzle, celeriac fondant, blackberry Sauce Robert, mustard caviar, watercress, and orange, $37. Its regular menu will also be available.

Known for its famed family-style dinners, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Zehnder’s offers a Christmas Day buffet, family-style dinner menu and to-go menu. On the buffet is a huge selection, including Zehnder’s noodle soup, fresh baked bread and preserves, cheese spread and chicken liver paté, salads, prime rib and a ham carving station. On the hot buffet, guests can feast on Zehnder’s famous fried chicken, salmon, shrimp and veal along with plenty of sides. The cost is $40.95 for adults, ages 3-11, $8.95-$17.95 for ages 9-11. Dinners served family-style start at $32.95 for adults, $8.95-$17.95 ages 3-11. Zehnder’s to-go meal serves 8 to 10 and is $289.
