This $20 Purple Shampoo on Amazon Tones and Brightens My Hair After One Use

To me, there is nothing more annoying than when my salon-toned blonde hair turns brassy a few weeks after a highlight session.

Getting my hair to a cool and icy blonde color takes a long time in the salon chair (and let’s be honest, a good chunk of money), so I’ve tested tons of purple shampoos over the years. I’ve tried everything from drugstore name brands to expensive salon products, but finding something that was effective and not super costly was a challenge.

My hair stylist, Becky, has been in the business for a long time and always keeps it real with her recommendations, so this latest visit I had to get her insight. Knowing that I’m on a budget and love quick results, she told me all about Oligo’s blacklight purple shampoo.

She said Oligo has been her favorite purple shampoo for years because of its fast and lasting results. With a quick search, I was delighted to find the brand available on Amazon (who doesn’t love two-day delivery?). It has a near-perfect 4.7-star rating on the site, so clearly Becky isn’t the only fan of this affordable haircare product.

I decided to wait for my hair to get brassy to see just how well Oligo works. The first thing I noticed was how subtle the shampoo’s smell was. Often, purple shampoos have a strong odor that smells like a mix of chemicals and harsh perfumes. Oligo’s blacklight shampoo has a natural floral aroma that doesn’t overwhelm in the shower or after. It’s a low-key smell that’s noticeable, not annoying.

Once my hair was dry, I was shocked at how smooth it felt. Usually, purple shampoos dry out my hair and leave it feeling pretty rough, but with Oligo my hair felt conditioned and strong. This might be because the blacklight shampoo is made with 11 different amino acids, along with argan oil and other moisturizers. This combination kept my hair soft and didn’t lead to any excessive oiliness once my hair was dry and styled.

Another thing I liked was how it seemed to tone my darker brown roots in the process. I like to keep a natural root with my balayage, and I always keep in mind how shampoo can impact my hair up top. Oligo’s shampoo kept my hair toned all around, keeping the blend from top to bottom seamless.

What’s more, it’s 100 percent vegan and free of sulfates, parabens, and salt, so I don’t have to worry about damaging or stripping my locks of their natural oils. These quality ingredients produce an incredible shine that’s noticeable from the first use onward.

Since my first try, I’ve become addicted to this shampoo. I use it up to three times a week and like to vary how long I leave it in my hair (Oligo recommends leaving it in anywhere from one to five minutes). A few minutes gives my hair a nice touch up, and five minutes leaves it looking as icy as can be.

After months of using this product, I’m convinced that I can stop switching up my routine every other month. My hair is glossy, strong, and toned — just the way I like it.
