These 24 restaurants opened around Sacramento in April. Where to eat dumplings, pho and more

At least 24 new restaurants opened around greater Sacramento in April, from an ice cream parlor in the city’s southern reaches to Hawaiian brewpub in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Four restaurants opened in Folsom, two apiece in Woodland and Roseville and one each in Citrus Heights, Isleton, Camino, El Dorado Hills, Rocklin, Carmichael and Davis.

  • Bambū Dessert Drinks (1870 Prairie City Road, Suite 300, Folsom): San Jose-based Bambū, which also has locations in south Sacramento and Elk Grove, focuses on Vietnamese dessert drinks and puddings called chè.

  • Casa Jalisco (39492 Kentucky Ave., Woodland): Casa Jalisco expanded to join Woodland’s strong Mexican food scene on April 12, following three years of burritos, breakfast plates and Impossible tacos in West Sacramento.

  • Catrina’s Cantina (6130 Stanford Ranch Road, Rocklin): This Mexican restaurant’s skeletal decor takes inspiration from its namesake La Catrina, the central figure of Día de Muertos.

  • Chaat Bistro (8128 Delta Shores Circle South, Suite 140, Sacramento): Hardeep Singh’s North Indian joint is one of Delta Shores shopping center’s few locally-owned restaurants, with many curries, wraps and biryanis.

  • Cold Stone Creamery (8166 Delta Shores Circle South, Suite 130, Sacramento): The ice cream chain famous for mixed-in toppings opened its Delta Shores location on April 10.

  • Crumbl Cookies (2115 Bronze Star Drive, Suite 160, Woodland): The United States’ fastest-growing cookie chain brought its super-sweet treats to Yolo County on April 21, after previously opening at 11 other sites around the region.

  • Dumpling Yo (1032 Florin Road, Sacramento): Many people come to Greenhaven’s new Chinese restaurant for xialongbao (soup dumplings) and pan-fried pork buns, though there are heartier dishes such as Shanghai-style scallion noodles as well.

  • Galpão Gaucho (1400 Eureka Road, Roseville): This Brazilian-style steakhouse opened its sixth location and first in the Sacramento region, serving up hot cuts of garlic picanha, top sirloin and bacon-wrapped filet mignon.

  • Gyro Genie (5653 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento): Lamb shawarma wraps, chicken tikka masala and tabbouleh are all on the menu at this Indian/Middle Eastern joint in Fruitridge Manor.

  • Huckleberry’s (9647 Micron Ave., Sacramento): Cali-Bayou brunch items such as fried green tomatoes, catfish po’boys with Sriracha aioli and andouille sausage/Louisiana shrimp skillets are hallmarks of Huckleberry’s, which opened its sixth area location in Rosemont.

  • Isleton Coffee Company (43 Main St., Isleton): A new cafe in the California Delta that opened April 24, Isleton Coffee Coffee bakes biscuits-of-the-day to go with cups of Alaska-based Raven’s Brew Coffee.

  • LaSam Pho (7777 Sunrise Blvd., Suite 2200, Citrus Heights): Pick between beef, chicken or vegetable phở at Citrus Heights’ new Vietnamese restaurant, or dive into a plate of bò lúc lắc (shaking beef).

  • Local Kitchens (8680 Sierra College Blvd., Suite 195, Roseville): This food hall’s second Roseville location is really nine restaurants in one: Square Pie Guys’ Detroit-style pizza, Rooster & Rice’s Thai chicken, Sushiritto’s Japanese fusion, The Melt for all things cheesy, Nash & Proper’s hot chicken, Oren’s Hummus’ Israeli fare, Pressed’s juices, Humphry Slocombe’s ice cream and Milk Bar’s baked desserts.

  • Mantra (1870 Prairie City Road, Suite 500, Folsom): This all-vegetarian Indian restaurant with many vegan options carries a mix of inventive dishes (masala paneer “hot dogs”) and more traditional fare such as sambar.

  • Nour’s Cafe (5149 Manzanita Ave., Carmichael): Eye-catching menu items at this ornate Middle Eastern cafe include Turkish coffee, loaded waffles and hand pies called moajanat.

  • Pacific Coast Pasta Co.’s Fine Italian Deli (5003 Windplay Drive, Suite 1, El Dorado Hills): Michael Tringale ran a mobile pasta business for five years before opening his first brick-and-mortar Italian deli in the Windplay Business Center.

  • Shoki Ramen House (2530 21st St., Sacramento): Yasushi and Kathy Ueyama reopened their popular Japanese restaurant known for its tan tan men on April 21, five years after a fire forced its closure.

  • Southside Super (921 V St., Sacramento): Phuong Tran (Fish Face Poke Bar) and Seoyeon Oh (Camellia Coffee Roasters) serve homestyle Vietnamese and Korean food in their 18-seat diner/deli where Lo/Fi and June’s Cafe previously stood in Southside Park.

  • Sudwerk Brewing Co. (2001 2nd St., Davis): Davis’ craft brewing pioneer hadn’t had an adjoined restaurant since 2016, but it opened a sparkling new one with cherry wood smoked wings, steak sandwiches and quinoa bowls on April 6.

  • The Coconut Fulton (2851 Fulton Ave., Sacramento): This Arden Arcade restaurant will serve the same Thai classics as Nan Pangpanga’s other much-loved restaurants (Drunken Noodle, The Coconut on T and The Coconut River Park).

  • The Mimosa House (1002 Riley St., Folsom): One of the region’s most popular brunch spots, The Mimosa House opened its second Folsom location on April 21, with additional outposts in East Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, Roseville and Gold River.

  • Tonno’s Bar & Grill (312 E. Bidwell St., Folsom): Fusion foods such as jalapeno popper Reubens, birria ramen and cheesesteak pizzas have been a hallmark of Tonno’s Orangevale location; now it’s expanding to replace Doyle’s Pub and Taproom in Folsom.

  • Tropics Island Grill & Ale House (3590 Carson Road, Camino): Expect poke, pizzas and stout-braised kalua pork sandwiches at this Hawaiian restaurant and beer bar, which has locations across the islands and one in midtown Sacramento.

  • Tsukiji Japanese Sushi Hibachi (3541 Truxel Road, Sacramento): Tsukiji closed its Rosemont restaurant in 2018 but opened an all-you-can-eat Japanese buffet with sushi, teppanyaki, udon and more in Natomas.
