200 Paterson families will receive $400 each month through guaranteed income program
PATERSON — About 200 city residents received $400 debit cards this month as part of Mayor Andre Sayegh’s “guaranteed income” initiative.
The recipients were picked by a lottery from among about 6,000 applicants, officials said. They will get $400 per month on the debit cards over the course of a year, or a total of $4,800.
The program is designed to help residents overcome financial hardships. The Sayegh administration allocated $1.4 million from its American Rescue Plan COVID-relief aid for the program.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible, single-person households could not earn more than $38,910 per year. The limit for a family of three was $110,311 per year and for a family of five it was $184,405.
This marks the second wave for the guaranteed income in Paterson. The first happened during a 12-month period spanning from 2021 to 2022. About 110 people received debit cards in that round, which was funded by a national group called Mayors for a Guaranteed Income.
