We've already driven the 2018 M5, but BMW has yet to officially take the camouflage off its latest sports sedan. The new Need For Speed game, Payback, did the job for BMW, however. Right there in one of the promotional shots for the game is the next-generation M5.

The game was announced this morning, but our friends at Autoblogwere the first to spot the M5 in its promotional materials. A representative for BMW just confirmed to us that this is, in fact, the new M5, and not just an artist's rendering.

The car pictured has the same vertical grille slat design as the prototype we drove, and what definitely appears to be a small M5 badge too. It's a very similar grille design as the previous-generation M5. The front fascia on the car seen here is also very similar, though not identical, to the recently-debuted M550i xDrive.

A Car Throttle reader also noticed that a different angle of the M5 was published on online game store origin. Here, you can clearly see the M5 badge on the front fender. Interestingly, BMW M posted the same image on its own, verified Facebook page.

For the first time, BMW is offering all-wheel drive and a traditional torque-converter automatic transmission in the new M5. The car uses a tuned version of the previous-gen M5's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, that should crank out at around 600 hp. BMW will officially debut the M5 in non-video-game form at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall. Until then, this is probably our best look at this new model.
