As a Black woman, doing my hair takes time, effort, love and care, especially with my unpredictable type 4 hair. But now that I and a plethora of other young Black women are staying home with nothing but time to braid with Kanekalon hair, faux locs and more, we’re finally learning how to care for our own tresses — painlessly at that.

For some of us who were never taught growing up, now while social distancing, Black women are learning how to braid. Not to mention, as a culture, hair changes for us are in constant rotation (I’ve personally gone through six different styles since quarantine began). But in the midst of salon closures, Black YouTubers and TikTok creators have expanded their tips and tricks on where to buy hair (and how to do it) for nearly every style. From $40 lace front wigs to Jamaican Bounce crochet braiding hair, hair enthusiasts are spilling all the tea on where to find hair with deals. And with all of the synthetic hair strewn across Amazon in packs of six, eight and 12 bundles for under $40, it’s like we never really left the beauty supply store.

Even so, just searching “Kanekalon hair” in Amazon will leave you with thousands of results to sort through. You may or may not decide to dive into ombre Senegalese twists. Some women are shopping various colored wigs to compete in TikTok’s very own #CrushOnYouChallenge, a TikTok trend Black and brown women are participating in as an ode to the varying looks Lil Kim wears in the “Crush On You” music video. But to know exactly what you’re looking for, here’s an assortment of (almost) every kind of hair you might be in the mood to rock on Instagram and all throughout your stay at home.
