2020 Cadillac CT5 Luxury priced far below CTS sedan predecessor
Cadillac's newest sedan coming to market this fall will be priced far below the sedan it replaces and will offer added content.
The 2020 Cadillac CT5 Luxury 2-liter turbo engine model will start at $37,890 for rear-wheel drive and $40,490 for all-wheel drive when it lands in dealerships this fall.
Its predecessor, the CTS, started at $47,990 for the 4-cylinder and $55,690 for the V-6.
The Premium Luxury CT5 model will start at $41,690 for rear-wheel drive and $44,780 for all-wheel drive.
The Sport version will start at $42,690 and $45,290 for all-wheel drive.
The CT5 competitors such as the 2019 Audi A4 sedan starts at $39,200, the 2020 BMW 3-series starts at $40,750 and the 2020 Mercedes C-class starts at $41,400.
Dealers are taking orders for the CT5 now. GM said pricing will be announced separately for the CT5 3.0-liter turbo engine, V-Series model and additional features, including Super Cruise.
Cadillac will be launching a new or redesigned vehicle every six months through 2021. Unlike some other automakers, Cadillac still sees demand in the luxury market for sedans and said its V series has a cult following.
"With Cadillac we’re pursuing a dual path, the current vehicles and the future with electric vehicles and AV technology," said Ken Morris, GM's vice president of global products, in May.
Morris was referring to GM declaring Cadillac as its lead brand for electric vehicles. GM President Mark Reuss hinted that one day there is a "good possibility" that Cadillac's V-series will be all-electric.
The CT5, which will be assembled at GM's Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan, is targeting a new Cadillac buyer. Cadillac's customer base skews male, but with the CT5, it wants to "go after more females," said Jason Sledziewski, Cadillac's director of product marketing.
Cadillac also hopes to draw in younger and racially diverse buyers with the car. GM's luxury brand is eyeing buyers ages 35-45 for the CT5 with an annual income of $100,000 to $120,000, said Sledziewski.
CT5’s standard features include: Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Patented Safety Alert Seat, Digital HD Backup Camera, 10-speed automatic transmission, 2.0-liter turbo engine, Electronic Precision Shift, Driver Vehicle Mode Control including customizable My-Mode setting, Cadillac’s next generation infotainment system with 10-inch high-definition touch screen and rotary controller, OnStar, Keyless Entry & Push-Button Start, Active Noise Cancellation and sound optimization.
