The 2020 Golden Globe Nominations Are Out
Awards season has officially kicked off with the nominations for the 2020 Golden Globes, and it’s time to see who got nominated for their work over the past year. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Netflix is the belle of the ball; the streaming service has not one, not two, but three films nominated in the best motion picture: drama category, including Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story, which debuted just a few days ago and has already become a flash point for social media hot takes as well as now being a six-time Golden Globe nominee. The Irishman also received several nominations, including for best director: motion picture. Not nominated for best director, however, were any women—as noted on Twitter.
Another Netflix nominee is Kaitlyn Dever, who received a nod for her work on the chilling true-crime miniseries Unbelievable. Dever also appeared in beloved coming-of-age comedy Booksmart, and her costar Beanie Feldstein was nominated for her role in the film. HBO prestige dramedy Succession saw a nomination for lead actor Kieran Culkin, and no 2020 awards ceremony would be complete without some praise for Fleabag’s Hot Priest—aka Andrew Scott—who received a supporting actor nod. Billy Porter, who made history this year as the first openly gay black man to win an Emmy, was also nominated in the best actor in a drama series category for his role on FX’s Pose, and Jennifer Lopez, fulfilling all that awards buzz, nabbed a best actress in a supporting role nomination for Hustlers.
Tim Allen, Dakota Fanning, and Susan Kelechi Watson were on hand to announce the nominees for the Globes, which will take place on January 5. Read the full list of nominations, below.
