2020 Halloween Events For The Family Near Kingstowne

KINGSTOWNE, VA — The coronavirus pandemic means Halloween will look different this year. Fairfax County isn't traditional door-to-door trick-or-treat, but the locality doesn't make decisions to host or cancel Halloween events.

Nevertheless, some events are happening in 2020 with safety precautions. We've rounded up some of the family-friendly events in the coming days in and around Kingstowne.

Many events may require pre-registration due to attendance limits. The list includes some events that have already sold out. Let us know in the comments if we missed anything.

Kingstowne Costume Contest, Pumpkin Carving Contest and Kids Pick a Treat: Kingstowne Residential Owners Corporation

Various dates; trick-or-treat on Oct. 29

Residents in the Kingstowne Residential Owners Corporation's communities can participate in several Halloween activities. Pumpkin carving contest entries will be considered for several categories: most Creative, funniest, and scariest. The costume contest will give prizes to the first and second place winners in several categories: best duo or group costume, spookiest, and most original. Entries are due by Nov. 1. Voting will happen between Nov. 4 and 11 on the KROC website.

For trick-or-treat, residents will sign up for a time on Oct. 29 between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Goodie bags will be picked up at the South Center. Costumes are encouraged and face masks are required.

Trunk or Treat by NewLife Alexandria: 5502 Trin Street, Alexandria, VA

Oct. 31, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Trunk-or-treat will be held with social distancing and safety guidelines in the parking lot.

The St. James Halloween Spooktacular: 6805 Industrial Road, Springfield, VA

Oct. 31, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The St. James is hosting a socially-distanced movie night with pizza, popcorn and more. There will also be pre-wrapped candy for trick-or-treat and Halloween activities. Tickets are available to St. James members and non-members.

Kingstowne "Speed-Friending" Trunk or Treat: Lee District RECenter, 6601 Telegraph Road, Alexandria, VA

Oct. 25, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (registration was due on Oct. 18)

Kingstowne Community is hosting an adapted "speed-friending" Trunk-or-Treat open to all ages. Every participant will register their car to hand out handy and participate in trunk-or-treat. Decorating vehicles is encouraged but not required. Prizes will be given for best costume, best decorated car, and most creative socially-distanced candy-passing.

Fall Harvest Festival at Mount Vernon: 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, VA

Oct. 24 and 25, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Celebrate the fall season with 18th century activities and demonstrations. The event is included with admission to Mount Vernon.

Fall Frolic at Lee-Fendall House: 614 Oronoco Street, Alexandria, VA

Oct. 24, various times

Families are invited to dress up in costumes and enjoy safe fun in the Lee-Fendall House garden. The event, geared toward ages 3 to 12, has bobbing for apples, searching for "ghosts," trick-or-treat walk, suncatcher Witch's Cauldron craft, Seasonal Selfie Station and costume parade. Timed tickets should be purchased in advance.

Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat by Shiloh Baptist Church of Alexandria, Shiloh Baptist Street, 1401 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA

Oct. 24, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Families are invited to this drive-thru trunk-or-treat for pre-bagged candy. Register for the free event on Eventbrite.

Carlyle Vitality Initiative's Halloween Festivities: John Carlyle Square Park, 300 John Carlyle Street, Alexandria, VA

Oct. 30, 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Trick-or-treating with the family at the farmers market will be followed by a Halloween concert. Attendees can bring their pre-carved pumpkins to enter into a best carved pumpkin contest.

Trick-or-Treating at Mount Vernon, 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, VA

Oct. 31, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (sold out)

Mount Vernon will host its annual trick-or-treat with 18th century activities,a bag of candy and a take-home craft.

Lowe's Curbside Trick-or-Treat: 6750 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA

Oct. 22 and 29 (registration full)

Lowe's is hosting drive-thru curbside trick-or-treat by registration. Children will receive free sweet treats and a kid-sized pumpkin.
