  • Porsche announced that its Taycan electric sedan, which is about to launch, will be the first car to have Apple Music integrated into its infotainment system.

  • While it can also be used through Apple CarPlay, having it integrated directly allows for additional features and functionality.

  • Also included with every Taycan purchase: three years of included data and a free six-month subscription to Apple Music (three months for existing subscribers).

With the Porsche Taycan's September 4 launch right around the corner, Porsche continues to trickle out additional details on its electric sedan. The latest tidbit is that it will be the first car to have Apple Music functionality built directly into its infotainment system.

This is also our first official glimpse at the Taycan's interior, with its signature curved digital gauge cluster carried over intact from the Mission E concept.

While Apple Music is already accessible through the screen-mirroring Apple CarPlay feature, which the Taycan also has, having it integrated directly yields additional capability. For example, when listening to a song on another source, such as FM or XM satellite radio or another streaming service, a user can create a custom Apple Music station based on that song or add it to their portfolio.

It also means a tighter integration to the car, where Porsche's voice control, rather than Siri, can control Apple Music, and playlists can be displayed on the gauge cluster and selected through the steering-wheel controls. Contrast that with CarPlay, which is relegated to the center screen (although multiple-screen capability is coming in the iOS 13 update). And users don't have to have their phone present (as if that ever happens) to use their account. The integration of Apple Music also includes playlists selected by Porsche, which, we're told are the same for every market (due to Germany's strange adoration with David Hasselhoff, perhaps he'll make the cut?).

Perhaps even more noteworthy, Taycan buyers will get three years of included data, all the better to stream Apple Music, and they'll also get a free six-month subscription to the service (it's three months for existing members).

While this functionality will presumably roll out across more of the lineup, Porsche wouldn't confirm it.
