2020 Toyota Prius Gets Apple CarPlay and a Slight Price Hike
The Toyota Prius hybrid hatchback is adding a few new standard features for 2020.
A 7.0-inch touchscreen, up from last year's 6.1-inch screen, is newly standard and includes Apple CarPlay capability (no Android Auto, though).
Prices rise $430 on most trim levels, with the base L Eco starting at $25,155.
After an update for 2019 that added optional all-wheel drive, revised styling, and a restructured trim-level lineup, the Toyota Prius is now slightly better equipped for 2020. It gains a few new connectivity features as standard equipment and prices rise accordingly, with most trim levels up by $430.
While an outdated 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system was previously standard, all 2020 models excepting the top-trim Prius Limited come standard with a newer 7.0-inch touchscreen that enables Apple CarPlay capability (Android Auto is still not on the menu). The Limited comes with a huge 11.6-inch vertically oriented touchscreen, which also supports Apple CarPlay. Toyota's Safety Connect system is also newly standard; this OnStar-esque tech includes emergency assistance, roadside assistance, stolen vehicle locator, and automatic collision notification.
The new standard features mean that prices go up, by $430 for the lower trims and by $175 for the Limited. The L Eco now starts at $25,155, the LE at $26,365, the XLE at $29,205, and the Limited at $33,330. All-wheel-drive capability, which is enabled by a small rear-mounted electric motor, remains a $1400 option for the LE and a $1000 option for the XLE.
