After 2020 trooper shooting, Hyannis woman indicted on related charges

BARNSTABLE — A 44-year-old Hyannis woman has been indicted by a grand jury for her alleged role in a 2020 shooting in Hyannis of a Massachusetts state trooper, according to a statement from the Cape and Islands District Attorney's office on March 17. The trooper recovered from the shooting.

Kemorine Brown was indicted on charges of accessory after the fact and intimidation of a witness. She was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on the same charges on Nov. 25, 2020.

Assistant District Attorney Russ Eonas said Tuesday that Brown’s arraignment is scheduled for April 10 in Barnstable Superior Court. He said he couldn't comment further on specific facts of the case.

Generally, Superior Court allows for greater potential penalties, Eonas said, without referring to a specific case.

Massachusetts State Trooper John Lennon was shot during a traffic stop on Nov. 20, 2020.

Andre Sterling allegedly shot Trooper John Lennon during a traffic stop in Hyannis on Nov. 20, 2020. Sterling fled the scene. He died in the Bronx after being shot by law enforcement officials who were looking for him.

State police wrote in their 2020 arraignment report that the car Sterling was driving when he allegedly shot Lennon was found in a parking lot of an apartment building on West Main Street in Hyannis. Police talked to Brown, who lived at the building and claimed not to know the sedan or anything about the shooting, according to police.

Brown said she gave a ride to a person in the early morning hours of Nov. 21. Officers found that both her and Sterling’s phones were together and traveled to several places on the Cape in the hours after the shooting, based on cell phone location data. Massachusetts state police investigated the case.

In reaction to the indictment, Brown's lawyer Nate Amendola, of Nate Amendola Defense, said "The Barnstable County DA's office took nearly two and a half years to indict Ms. Brown, which is a grave injustice. She's completely innocent."
