2021-22 Tennessee high school sports season wraps up with eventful Spring Fling
Good Sunday morning! This is trending sports reporter Nick Gray, hoping you are having a good Memorial Day weekend.
The 2021-22 high school sports season is wrapping up with Spring Fling this weekend in Murfreesboro.
So much went on at Spring Fling this week that to highlight all of the fun and interesting stories would make this newsletter much too long. High school sports editor Tom Kreager, reporter Joe Spears and the rest of the high school sports staff have covered every base at tennessean.com/sports/high-schools/.
Four stories caught my eye, including:
Upperman baseball won the Class 3A title for the first time in 29 years. Upperman baseball coach Wes Shanks watched his dad win titles for Upperman in 1991 and 1993, and it has now come full circle for father and son.
Brentwood boys soccer cruised to a 4-1 win over Bearden to win their first state championship since 2012.
Ravenwood senior Reghan Grimes won the girls shot put and discus state titles in Class 3A, capping off quite the senior year. Grimes finished the year with a Class AAA volleyball state runner-up, a trip to the Class 4A basketball sectionals and two track titles.
Nolensville freshman Claire Stegall won the 3,200 and 1,600 meter titles and is in elite company with three years left in high school.
