With screens growing in your living room, your office and your pocket, it was only a matter of time before the small, digital radio screen in your car would evolve, too. As you can see in many modern cars, trucks and SUVS, the growing trend of increased screen size has already started, and it doesn’t seem to be losing any steam. The latest addition to the hard-fought screen wars is the 2021 Ford Edge. Sitting in the middle of the 2021 Ford Edge’s dash is a sizable 12-inch infotainment touchscreen running on Ford’s new Sync 4 infotainment system.
That might not seem too important, knowing that there are obviously larger screens and the big-screen trend pushes automakers to continually usurp the next king-of-the-screen. Well, what makes this interesting for the 2021 Edge is that this 12-inch screen is now standard issue. For reference, that means the 12.0-inch tablet-style touchscreen replaces the previously standard 4.2-inch screen in the budget models.
Joining the larger screen and the new operating system is also wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Ford’s Sync 4 allows users to connect their smartphone to the 2021 Edge through the Edge’s Wi-Fi, perhaps helping those who don’t keep a charging cable on them at all times but want to listen to their favorite podcast.
As for the rest of the Edge? Well, that’s largely carried over from 2020. It’s hard to say how this revised interior and a new screen will affect the base price, but we’re going to assume that it probably increases the price slightly. We won't know the exact pricing until the 2021 Edge starts hitting dealers early next year.
