Hyundai announced yesterday it will be adding a performance-oriented N Line trim to its Elantra sedan lineup, complete with a 201-horsepower turbocharged engine and two choices of transmission. The 2021 Elantra N Line essentially replaces the Elantra GT N Line hatchback, which the company discontinued earlier this week.

Under the hood of the new Elantra N Line is the company's familiar 1.6-liter GDI turbocharged inline-four, taken straight out of the GT N Line hatch. Rated at 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, it's paired to the buyer's choice of a seven-speed dual-clutch or a six-speed manual transmission (nice). Hyundai says it's made some improvements to stiffen up the car's suspension to handle the extra power, and added larger front brake rotors.

Cosmetically, the 2021 Elantra N Line gets a specific grille, side skirts, lip spoiler, and diffuser, as well as a set of 18-inch alloy wheels to differentiate itself from the rest of the lineup. Inside, occupants are treated to a leather-wrapped steering wheel, sport seats with leather bolsters, metal pedals, a drive mode selector, and, if you option the dual-clutch, paddle shifters. There's also a host of safety and convenience systems onboard, including collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and rear cross-traffic alerts.

Hyundai has yet to release pricing for the 2021 Elantra N Line, but our colleagues over at Car and Driver estimate a starting price in the $27,000 range, with deliveries starting in December. The Korean carmaker says it plans to release a Sonata N Line with a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine later this year, so if you're looking for something with a bit more oomph, stay tuned.
