How do you make the already cool Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe and Roadster even cooler for 2021?

More power, to start. You can never have enough power. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in the GT now gets 54 more horsepower to jump to 523. Torque remains a healthy and meaty 465 lb ft. Together they launch the 3,982-pound 2021 model from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, two tenths quicker than before. Top speed remains the same: 194 for the coupe and 193 for the roadster. That is fast. Ask me how I know.

The list of standard equipment also grows: AMG Ride Control suspension with adjustable active damping; electronic limited slip; and AMG composite brakes with red calipers. Engineers even added a RACE drive mode setting, so you know it’s going to be faster.

But the coolest addition is probably the “Stealth Edition,” a trim so dark it might completely disappear. Batman would look for "...something more cheery." Real bats have to use echolocation to find it and even they have trouble. Beelzebub would change his ways and buy a happy New Beetle. The Stealth Edition consists of what AMG calls its Exterior Night Package: black brake calipers, dark chrome (i.e. black) radiator grille, black elements around the headlights, and matte black Y-spoke wheels, 19-inch fronts and 20-inch rears. The black carbon fiber roof has dark-tinted trim if you get the coupe, black soft top for the roadster. That color in the photos is “obsidian black metallic," but if you are feeling even slightly chipper you can get selenite grey metallic or design graphite grey magno. But stick with the obsidian black metallic, otherwise you might accidentally smile or something.

The darkness continues into the interior with the AMG Night Package: nappa style leather in (guess what color?) black with black diamond quilting, black topstitching and trim and black piano lacquer. You can get the black piano lacquer in carbon fiber which, come to think of it, is also black.

Excuse me, I have to go take an anti-depressant.

The new model comes out in early 2021. Price is still TBA but the current model starts at $115,900 before destination for the coupe and $150,900 for the Convertible.
