For more than 30 years, the Council on Culture & Arts has presented the annual Winter Festival Youth Art exhibition. This year, 47 elementary, middle and high school art teachers submitted nearly 100 pieces of artwork on behalf of their K-12 students for the show.

The entries represent more than 30 different area public, private and charter schools. The works can be seen through Feb. 7 either in person at the City Hall Gallery or virtually in COCA’s Online Gallery at cocaonlinegallery.zenfolio.com. For details, visit tallahasseearts.org/event/the-2021-winter-festival-youth-art-exhibition.

While it is an honor to have been selected for inclusion in this show, some of the middle and high school artists were awarded additional kudos from the exhibition judge. Pamela “Kabuya” Bowens-Saffo serves as the arts administrator and chief curator for the Anderson Brickler Gallery. She earned a BFA from Howard University and an MFA from Temple University. She is a printmaker and art educator and has taught at both FSU and FAMU and has led a variety of school and community-based art programs.

Each year, The Mayor tours this exhibit and chooses a “Best in Show” winner. Mayor John Dailey is committed to supporting and nurturing emerging talent in our community and he is proud of Tallahassee’s art students and teachers.

COCA congratulates all the participating students and their art teachers, and we're pleased to announce the award winners.
