2022 Athens Area Empty Stocking Fund: How to donate, receive funds

The Athens-Banner Herald Empty Stocking Fund has been a source for local agencies to assist those in need in the Athens area for many years. Funds raised through the Empty Stocking campaign are used to help families at risk of eviction pay rent and take care of many other necessary expenses, including medical, power and water bills. Since 2018, we partnered with the Athens Area Community Foundation to handle all funds donated to assist those in need.

We want to share with you some of the incredible stories we hear that tell the impact of this fund within our community.

"As one of the most giving and happiest times of the year commences, one has to remember that there are many who go into the holiday season struggling, behind on bills and worried about how they can afford to see their child smile. The Empty Stocking Fund serves as a light in darkness for many of these unheard survivors of poverty. Many residents I referred last year have said that this resource 'saved their Christmas' or helped keep the lights on to feed their families. The ESF means HOPE to me and my residents," said a neighborhood leader with Family Connection-Communities in Schools of Athens.

"We are so thankful for AACF and ESF. With their help, we’re able to provide concrete resources for the families we serve during the holiday season. For some families, ESF is the difference in a warm, safe holiday for their children. This program is critical to our mission of preventing child abuse and neglect in our community," said Sallie Starrett with Brightpaths.
