'I carried Athens on my back': How Ishues brought Classic City hip-hop to the world stage
"It feels really good to be recognized at the highest level in the city," Ishues told the Banner-Herald. "I made it my focus to make downtown Athens recognize hip-hop and be a place where we could come and perform."
Bloodkin and Love Tractor were part of the 1980s explosion of new-wave rock that brought worldwide attention to the Athens music scene. Singer-songwriter Daniel Hutchens, who co-founded Bloodkin with childhood friend Eric Carter, passed away on May 9, 2021.
Athens-born Burgess was active in the theater program at Cedar Shoals High School and received his bachelor of arts in music from the University of Georgia in 2001. Burgess is a five-time Emmy award nominee for his work on "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."

Ishues, whose given name is Ismeal Cuthbertson, went from performing at battle of the bands competitions in downtown Athens to touring with legendary rapper KRS-One in the mid-2000s and opening for major-label American acts in Africa. Ishues is one of the most respected MCs in Athens music history.
