2022 Broad Street Run Registration Opens Monday

PHILADELPHIA — This year's Blue Cross Broad Street Run is all set for early May, and registration opens next week.

The 42nd Blue Cross Broad Street Run will take place in Philadelphia on Sunday, May 1. This is the first time the 10-mile run will take place on its traditional spring date since 2019.

Registration opens at midnight on Monday for those who are guaranteed entry.

Runners in the following categories will be guaranteed entry as long as they register before 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 13:

  • Runners who have competed in at least 10 consecutive races

  • Runners who deferred their place in 2020 or 2021

The lottery for all other registrants will open at midnight on Feb. 14 and close on Feb. 28 at 11:59 p.m.

Guaranteed-entry runners can register for the Blue Cross Broad Street Run online here at midnight on Monday, and all other runners can register on Feb. 14.

The 2022 race will be in person, and individuals must be fully vaccinated — one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines — to participate. Runners also have the option to participate in a virtual run.

"I’m happy to welcome the Blue Cross Broad Street Run back to Broad Street this spring," Mayor Jim Kenney said. "This is another sign that Philadelphia is returning to normal, and I thank everyone who has been vaccinated and following public health guidance for helping us get here. I am also grateful to our partners at Independence Blue Cross for their continued commitment to this iconic race and to the health of our residents."

After the COVID-19 pandemic forced the 2020 race to go virtual, and the 2021 race took place in fall, runners, sponsors, and the race’s select charitable partners are eager to return to the fun, training, and sense of community that make the Blue Cross Broad Street Run one of the City’s most popular spring traditions.

Race organizers will continue to work closely with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health to ensure the race prioritizes the safety of runners and community health.

In addition to proof of vaccination for runners, COVID-19 protocols will include:

  • Mandatory masking for runners at the start and finish line; and

  • Mandatory masking required of volunteers throughout the race.

At this time, Cheer Zones and Finishing Area activities have been suspended for the 2022 race, and spectators are encouraged to cheer runners on from home.

"The Blue Cross Broad Street Run represents the best of Philadelphia: hard work, determination, and community spirit," said Kathryn Ott Lovell, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Commissioner. "I can’t wait to see all the runners on Broad Street this May."
