2022 election: Voters return incumbents to 3 Sussex County seats

Republican incumbents won Sussex County's three contested races on Tuesday, while two other candidates were unchallenged.

Sussex County incumbent council member Doug Hudson will return to his District 4 seat after defeating Democrat Nathan Mitchell with 63.7% of the vote. Hudson got 15,189 votes to Mitchell's 8,668 votes.

Incumbent District 5 council member John Rieley defeated Democrat Billy Edwards with 63.5% of the vote. Rieley got 10,629 votes to Edwards' 6,124 votes.

And incumbent Sheriff Robert Lee defeated James Brittingham with 82.7% of the vote, 61,644 to 12,884.

Uncontested candidates earned two other Sussex County seats:

  • Record of deeds: Republican Alexandra Reed

  • Register of wills: Republican Greg Fuller
