2022 fireworks in Rutherford County: Where to go to celebrate 4th of July

Looking for fun ways to celebrate Independence Day? Here are some festivities going on in Rutherford County.

Town of Smyrna

Smyrna's Independence Day Celebration will kick off at 5 p.m. July 1 at Lee Victory Recreation Park, 110 Sam Ridley Parkway E.

There will be food vendors, games, children’s activities and live music featuring Nashville Hitmen. Inflatable playgrounds, as well as both playgrounds within Lee Victory Recreation Park, will be open.

Smyrna Honor Guard’s presentation of the colors begins at 8:45 p.m., followed by the fireworks show.

Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food vendors will be onsite, but visitors may bring a picnic. Grills and personal fireworks will not be permitted on site.

Take note of road closures that will begin at 8:30 p.m.:

  • Sam Ridley Parkway will be closed from US41/70S (Lowry Street) to Fitzhugh Drive

  • Nolan Drive will be closed from the roundabout to Sam Ridley Parkway

  • The walking trail located in Front of Lee Victory Recreation Park

Parking along the roads, shoulders and marked safety areas is prohibited

Parking will be available at Lee Victory Recreation Park and Smyrna Event/Outdoor Adventure Center. Restrooms at the center will be open and there will also be activities available there. Parking is also offered at Smyrna Golf Course and pedestrians must use the tunnel under Sam Ridley Parkway to access the park.

For those unable to attend, the fireworks display will be broadcast on Smyrna Channel 3, Smyrna's YouTube Channel and Facebook page.

La Vergne

La Vergne's annual Independence Day celebration will be from 5-10:30 p.m. July 4 at Veterans Memorial Park, 115 Floyd Mayfield Drive.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and live music featuring Phoenix Rising kicks off at 6 p.m. Fireworks begin at dusk and admission is free. The best vantage point will be from the football field where the music stage will be set up.

Families are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs, as well as their own picnic dinners. Visitors may also dine from a selection of food vendors that will be on site.

No personal fireworks — including sparklers — are allowed on city property.

Fireworks are allowed within city limits between 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 2-5, On July 4 those times are extended to 11 p.m. To report disturbances outside those times, call La Vergne Police Department at 615-793-7744.

Rockvale's 95th

Rockvale's 95th annual Fourth of July picnic will take place on July 4 at the Rockvale Community Center, 9920 Rockvale Road, just off New Salem Highway about one mile from the convenience center.

Hosted by the Rockvale Ruritan Club, festivities start at 9 a.m. and run until 3 p.m.

Food vendors will be selling shaved ice, baked goods, hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue, homemade ice cream, among other treats. There will also be arts and crafts vendors. Booth space is limited

Other festivities include a variety of children's activities, a silent auction and chain saw carving demonstration.

There is no admission and parking is free. Be sure to bring musical instruments for shade-tree pickin' and your lawn chairs.

Political candidates are welcomed to attend, but there is a charge for sign placement and booth rental. Visit the Rockvale Ruritans Club Facebook page for more details or call 615-394-3985 for details.

Murfreesboro celebration

Celebration Under the Stars, presented by Middle Tennessee Electric in partnership with Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation, is set for July 4 at Fountains at Gateway, 1500 Medical Center Parkway.

The community is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for picnicking on the grass for the free event beginning at 4 p.m.

Burger Republic restaurant will be open and a food truck will also be in the parking area. Soda Bar and Just Love Coffee will be open, except during the fireworks display. Steakhouse Five will be closed.

The Pilots will perform at 7 p.m. The 25-minute fireworks show will kick off around 9 p.m.

Be sure to bring your bathing suits or clothes to get wet for the splash pad, which will be open during the event.

Murfreesboro facilities open/closed

Most of Murfreesboro city recreational facilities will be closed on the Fourth of July.

Boro Beach at SportsCom, 2310 Memorial Blvd., will be open regular hours, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Adams Tennis Complex will be open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Independence Day. Visit the city's website for details on pricing.

No solid waste trucks will operated on July 4. Monday’s garbage collection will be moved to Tuesday and Tuesday’s pickup will be moved to Wednesday. The recycling center at 648 W. Main St. will be open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 1. For more information, call 615-893-3681.
