Vote center security

Troy Warner of the St. Joseph County Police said Indiana state law restricts the presence of police at polling locations unless they are there to vote or if poll workers or the Election Board calls them to handle a breach of the peace, a disturbance or criminal activity.

"What we do is we make sure all of our officers know where the polling places are and which side of the building the entrance is on ...," Warner said. "Then, (officers) kind of drive by during the day so, if we get called, then we will respond appropriately and deal with the situations as they come on that day."

Warner said county police are not currently aware of any specific threats or intimidating activity planned for Election Day by groups or individuals. He said the department is not worried about disruptions at vote centers and has received no "credible information" leading them to believe a disruption will occur.
