2022 Indiana General Election: Meet the Greenwood Community School Board candidates

The Greenwood Community school board has five members, of which three represent separate districts and two are At Large positions. The two At Large seats and the District 2 seat will be on the ballot.

At Large

Two positions are available.

Mike Metzger

Mike Metzger currently serves as the president of the Greenwood school board and has been on the board since 2014. He also is the controls service team leader for Open Control Systems employed by Envelop Group. He has lived in the district since 2001 and currently has two children who attend district schools. Metzger told IndyStar that he wants to run for school board again because he wants to make education the best it can be for parents, teachers and students. He also said he's proud of the work the district has done so far in making improvements to infrastructure in various school facilities but also wants to work on school safety issues and be proactive when it comes to student and staff safety.

Brian Ford

Brian Ford is currently the vice president of the Greenwood School board and is the assistant vice president of claim with Travelers Insurance Company. Ford told IndyStar that he has lived in the district for over 50 years and has had children go to district schools. He said he chose to run for school board again because he wants to build on the work he already started and the work yet to be done. Ford said his number one priority is to make decisions that are in the best interest of students, teachers and staff with no personal agenda or special interest influence.

Chad Shaffer

Chad Shaffer currently works at Offprem Technology, a Salesforce consulting firm, and leads a team of technology consultants. He has lived in Greenwood since 2004 but moved into the Greenwood school district in 2016. He currently has four children in district schools. Shaffer told IndyStar that after attending school board meetings and being involved in the school district, he believes that the district can improve its communication of school board activities and should create additional channels for the community to communicate with the board. He believes that his experience in the technology industry will help in bringing support to technology enhancements across the district.

Peggy Daeger

Peggy Daeger has been working as a bus driver for the Greenwood Community school district for the past 35 years and has lived in the district for 44 years. Daeger told IndyStar that she has had three children graduate from the district. She said she is running for school board because she wants to give students in Greenwood the best education possible and continue to listen to the concerns of parents and employees. Some priorities for Daeger are that she wants to provide safety for students and good communication in the schools.

District 2

One position is available.

Jack Napier

Jack Napier currently serves on the Greenwood school board and has worked for the Greenwood Police Department. IndyStar reached out for additional comment.

What to know about voting

Early in-person voting has already begun in Indiana and will end on Nov. 7 at noon. Johnson County is a vote center county. View a list of early voting and election day vote centers here: bit.ly/3C3PwaT.

Voters can also vote absentee but need to request a ballot no later than Oct. 27, or 12 days before the general election on Nov. 8.

To request an absentee ballot, you must meet the requirements, which can be found online at in.gov/sos/elections/voter-information/ways-to-vote. You can request online or by mailing or hand-delivering the application to your county election board or the Indiana Election Division. You also can email the application to elections@iec.in.gov.

Once received, you should mail the ballot back to your local county election office. Ballots must be received by election officials by 6 p.m. on Election Day, or it will not be processed.
