The 2022 Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition Is an Ultra-Limited Off-Road Throwback
The classic Defender Works V8 Trophy is one of the coolest things to come from Land Rover in a long time. A re-engineered tribute to the brand's expedition-filled heritage, it sports a livery inspired by the original Camel Trophy competition Land Rovers and a 400-hp V-8 under the hood. In addition to building 25 classic Defenders, the company announced today it will be offering a version based on the current Defender as well, with all 220 units destined for North America.
Dubbed the Defender Trophy Edition, the ultra-limited trim sports the same iconic black and yellow livery, and even comes with stickers on each front door with the classic Land Rover logo. Based on the four-door P400 X-Dynamic SE trim, Defender Trophy Editions get a tow hitch receiver, air suspension, cold climate package, and both off-road packages available on the truck as standard. You also get a roof rack, extra underbody protection, a deployable ladder, an integrated air compressor, and deep-sided rubber floor mats. You can even option a winch if you plan to do some serious off-road trekking.
Even cooler, every Defender Trophy Edition will come with a two-person entry to a one-day Land Rover U.S. Trophy Competition off-roading event. Here's how the company explains it:
Up to 90 teams (six waves of 15 teams maximum on a first come, first served basis) will compete at the legendary Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C. starting from October 11, 2021. Competitors will face a number of on- and off-road challenges, including physical and team building obstacles. Expert one-on-one coaching will be provided as part of the adventure, giving customers a unique opportunity to develop extreme driving techniques and skills in their own vehicle, before putting their training to the test.
The overall winners will go on to compete in another Land Rover Trophy Competition event held at Eastnor Castle in the U.K. in early 2022. Sounds like a fun time to us.
Land Rover says the Defender Trophy Edition will be available to order in the U.S. at select dealers starting in August 2021, priced from $90,000.
