The best salve for fans disappointed by the Browns this season is looking ahead to next season.

That means getting ready for the 2022 NFL Draft.

After beating the Cincinnati Bengals 21-16 on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium, the Browns have the No. 13 pick in the draft following the NFL's 1 p.m. games.

The last time the Browns picked 13th in the first round, it actually came after a trade. In 2006, the Browns had the No. 12 pick, but traded it to division rival Baltimore for No. 13. Baltimore took defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. The Browns took pass rusher Kamerion Wimbley.

Ngata had multiple Pro Bowl and All Pro seasons. Wimbley had none.

That should put the Browns in good position to use their first-round pick on a wide receiver in what looks like another good wide receiver class. The options include Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson of Ohio State, Treylon Burks of Arkansas, Drake London of USC and Jameson Williams of Alabama.

The Browns may also be after a pass rusher if Jadeveon Clowney leaves in free agency. If that position is addressed in the first round, the names to know are George Karlaftis of Purdue and David Ojabo of Michigan.

The first overall pick will go to the Jacksonville Jaguars for the second year in a row. The last time that happened was when the Browns picked first overall in 2017 and 2018, taking Myles Garrett and Baker Mayfield, respectively. The Browns also held that infamous distinction in 1999 and 2000 when they took Tim Couch and Courtney Brown, respectively.

In last year's draft, the Jaguars used the first overall pick on quarterback Trevor Lawrence. With their franchise quarterback in place, the Jaguars will have their pick of the best pass rushers in the draft, whether it is Aidan Hutchinson of Michigan or Kayvon Thibodeaux of Oregon.
