Swansboro 48, Northside 41: Swansboro got defensive to defend its Onslow County Classic title.

The Pirates allowed just one second-quarter field goal as the Pirates defeated Northside in the tournament championship game and win the title for the second consecutive year.

Swansboro became just the third team to repeat at Onslow County Classic champions, joining Jacksonville in 2008-2009 and Northside in 2016-17 as the only ones to accomplish the feat. The Pirates were also just the third school to play in the final for at least three consecutive tournaments, joining Southwest in 2012-14 and Northside in 2016-19.

Swansboro trailed 14-9 after the first quarter, but outscored the Monarchs 10-2 in the second quarter. The Pirates led 31-23 after three quarters.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Jermaine Cunningham scored six of his 11 points in the fourth quarter. Jonah Holt finished with 12 points while Elijah McCallister had 11 and Ray Mitchell added eight for Swansboro (9-1), which was in the final for the third consecutive tournament.

Savion Pepper scored 12 of his 17 points in the first quarter for Northside. He had three 3-pointers in the opening period. Jayden Butler added 12 points and Michael Tate had nine for the Monarchs (7-6).

All-Tournament: Cunningham was joined on the all-tournament team by Mitchell, Pepper, Tate, White Oak’s Zack Noel and Richlands’ Dashaun Hooker.

White Oak 65, Richlands 31: Jamison Avila scored 19 points and Zack Noel added 11 as White Oak defeated Richlands in the third-place game of the Onslow County Classic.

Avila had eight points in the first quarter as the Vikings built a 22-7 lead. Aleni Mageo added 10 points and CJ Jackson had eight for White Oak (8-3), which outscored the Wildcats 10-2 in the second quarter.

Mekhi Mack scored seven points and Zarion Walters and Owen Simco added six for Richlands (7-5), which was without two key players, including injured point guard Dashaun Hooker.

Jacksonville 77, Southwest 37: Jacksonville had five different double-figure scorers and outscored Southwest 22-9 in the third quarter to win the fifth-place game of the Onslow County Classic.

The Cardinals led 29-24 at halftime before pulling away and taking a 51-33 lead into the fourth quarter.

Brayden Smith scored 15 points on five 3-pointers, Michael Carlock had 15 points and Amaree Barber added 14, including three 3-pointers in the third. Christian Constant added 12 points and Zack Lovett had nine of his 11 in the second half for the Cardinals (7-3).

Rue Chapman scored 12 points and Kendall Faulkner had eight for the Stallions (5-6).

Dixon 58, Lejeune 50: Mason Nowell scored 21 points on seven 3-pointers and Cooper Tozier scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half as Dixon defeated Lejeune in the seventh-place game of the Onslow County Classic.

Nowell had three first-quarter 3-pointers and added two in the second quarter. Tozier helped the Bulldogs fight off the Devilpups by making five of six free throws in the fourth. Messiah James ended with 10 points for the Bulldogs (5-8).

Lejeune led 15-12 after the first quarter and 33-31 at halftime. The Devilpups led 43-41 after the third quarter before the Bulldogs outscored them 17-7 in the fourth.

Andre Charles scored 13 of his 17 points in the first half and Andrew Higginbottom finished with 13 for Lejeune (4-7).

Thursday

Swansboro 66, Richlands 53: Ray Mitchell scored 16 points and Jermaine Cunningham added 14 as Swansboro defeated Richlands in the second semifinal of the Onslow County Classic.

The win advanced the Pirates to the tournament final for the third consecutive time. Swansboro won last year's event and advanced to the final in 2019. The tournament was not held in 2020 because of COVID.

The Pirates led 20-9 after the first quarter and never looked back. Elijah McCallister scored all 10 of his points in the first half while Jonah Holt scored eight of his 10 in the second half for Swansboro.

Dashaun Hooker scored 21 points, including four 3-pointers, and Lenny Halfter-Hunter and Nathan Padgett each added eight for the Wildcats.

Northside 53, White Oak 46: Savion Pepper scored 17 points and Michael Tate added 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks to lead Northside to a win over White Oak in the first semifinal of the Onslow County Classic.

Northside is in the tournament final for the ninth time. The Monarchs won the tournament in 2006, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2019 and played in the final in 2011 and 2018.

Pepper also had three steals. He hit two of his four 3-pointers in the last minute of the second quarter to help the Monarchs take a 22-16 lead into halftime. Northside closed the first half on a 13-4 run.

Tate scored 12 points in the fourth quarter, including making six of eight free throws. Xavier Ritter finished with nine points for Northside.

Zack Noel scored 25 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and CJ Jackson scored 10 points, making six free throws in the third, for the Vikings.

Jacksonville 57, Dixon 37: Amaree Barber scored 10 points, Michael Carlock added nine and Jacksonville used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Dixon in the second consolation bracket game in the Onslow County Classic.

The Cardinals had 11 scorers with seven scoring at least five. Jacksonville led 14-11 after the first quarter, 26-22 at halftime. They outscored the Bulldogs 19-2 in the third.

Brayden Sidbury scored 11 points and Cooper Tozier added nine for Dixon.

Southwest 74, Lejeune 47: Isaiah Sudlow scored 22 points to lead Southwest to a victory over Lejeune in the first consolation bracket game of the Onslow County Classic.

Sudlow had 17 in the first half as the Stallions led 27-24 at the break. Southwest pulled away by outscoring the Devilpups 27-7 in the third quarter.

Rue Chapman scored 10 of his 12 points in the third quarter and Jaden Richardson finished with nine points for Southwest.

Jack Priddy scored 14 points and Devon Charles added 10 for Lejeune.

Wednesday

Swansboro 58, Jacksonville 46: Jermaine Cunningham scored 21 points and Swansboro outscored Jacksonville 20-9 in the third quarter to defeat the Cardinals in the fourth game of the Onslow County Classic.

The Pirates only led 27-26 at halftime before they pulled away.

Cunningham then scored 15 points in the second half. He finished with four 3-pointers. Ray Mitchell added 14 points while Jacob Nagler scored 11of his 13 points in the second half for the Pirates.

Amaree Barber scored 17 points and Michael Carlock added 11 for the Cardinals.

Northside 70, Lejeune 49: Michael Tate’s monster game helped Northside rally from a halftime deficit and pull away from Lejeune in the third game of the Onslow County Classic.

Tate had 26 points, 19 rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks as the Monarchs overcame a 28-24 deficit at halftime. Northside outscored Lejeune 20-8 in the third quarter and 26-13 in the fourth.

Savion Pepper added 18 points and Durice Adamson had 10 for the Monarchs.

Connor Shea scored 20 points, followed by Andre Charles with 10 and Devon Charles with nine for the Devilpups.

White Oak 65, Southwest 54: White Oak’s Zack Noel scored 22 points and the Vikings outscored Southwest 25-16 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a win in the second game of the Onslow County Classic.

The Vikings led 32-20 at halftime, but the Stallions got to within 40-38 at the start the fourth quarter. But White Oak held on. Noel put an exclamation point on the win with a two-handed slam dunk with five second left.

Aleni Mageo had 14 points and CJ Jackson added 10 points, going four for four on free throws in the fourth quarter, for the Vikings. Antoni Ogumoro had 12 points for White Oak.

Rue Chapman scored 10 of his 17 points in the second half, Quaydon Holder had 10 of his 13 in the second half and Isiah Sudlow and Jaden Richardson each ended with nine points for the Stallions.

Richlands 59, Dixon 48: Dashaun Hooker scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half as Richlands rallied from a deficit at halftime to defeat Dixon in the opening game of the Onslow County Classic.

The Wildcats trailed 28-24 at halftime. They scored the final four points of the second quarter to pull to within four. Hooker helped lead the rally with seven third-quarter points and six in the fourth, including going four of four from the free throw line.

Nathan Padgett scored eight of his 13 points in the first half, Lenny Halftner-Hunter finished with 11 and Mason Coffin ended with eight for Richlands.

Cooper Tozier scored 13 points, Brayden Sidbury and Messiah James each had 10 and Mason Nowell had nine on three 3-pointers for the Bulldogs.
