2022 Shrewsbury Election Guide: Candidates, Polling Places, Poll Hours
SHREWSBURY, MA — Voters in Shrewsbury will head to the polls on Tuesday for the 2022 town election, which will feature two contested races for seats on key town committees.
Voters in Shrewsbury this year will encounter two big changes compared to elections held in 2020 and 2021.
Pandemic voting rules in Massachusetts have expired, which means most voters will have to go to the polls on May 3 to cast a ballot. No-excuse voting by mail may return at some point, but state lawmakers have not approved new rules.
Precincts may have also changed this year following new Census results released last summer. You can find your Shrewsbury voting precinct on the Secretary of the Commonwealth's website.
Here's everything you need to know about who's on the ballot in 2022, and how to vote.
In-person voting
Polls will be open in Shrewsbury on May 3 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The town will offer seven polling places, depending on your precinct.
Precinct 1 — Richard D. Carney Municipal Office Building, 100 Maple Ave.
Precinct 2, Precinct 6 — Senior Center, 98 Maple Ave.
Precinct 3 — Calvin Coolidge School, 1 Florence St.
Precinct 4 — Scandinavian Athletic Club, 438 Lake St.
Precinct 5, Precinct 10 — Sewer/Water Department Garage, 209 South St.
Precinct 7, Precinct 8 — Spring Street School, 123 Spring St.
Precinct 9 — Fire Station No. 3, 20 Centech Boulevard
Absentee voting
Unlike the two previous pandemic elections, absentee voting will only be allowed this year under limited circumstances, just like in elections prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
You're going to be out of town on Election Day
You have a disability prevents you from going to the polls
You have a religious belief that prevents you from voting in person
You can download an absentee ballot on the clerk's website. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is noon on May 2.
What's On The Ballot
There are four races on the ballot in 2022, but only two are competitive.
In the Board of Selectmen race, Chair John Samia is seeking another term, but Vice Chair John Lebeaux is not. Town Meeting member Michelle Conlin and Rajesh Uppalapati are running for seats on the board.
On the School Committee side, Lynsey Heffernan will seek a new term this spring, and three others have signed up to run for the seat B. Dale Magee is leaving.
