Titans predictions

Titans record: 10-7

The reason: A well-coached team, the Titans are one of two teams with six straight winning seasons. They have enough talent to make that seven straight. But there are still major concerns on offense – the passing game production post-A.J. Brown and protection for Ryan Tannehill – and the defense, the strength of the team, took a devastated blow with the reported loss of Harold Landry, its top pass rusher, to a torn ACL.

Titans’ offensive MVP: Derrick Henry

Titans’ defensive MVP: Jeffery Simmons

Stats for Ryan Tannehill: 68% completion rate for 3,800 passing yards and 30 TDs with 9 INTs

Rushing yards for Derrick Henry: 1,500

Where Titans’ offense will rank: 16th in points, 18th in total yards

Where Titans’ defense will rank: 9th in points, 13th in yards allowed

Will Tannehill overachieve or underachieve in 2022? Overachieve. Tannehill has talked at length how he’s motivated entering this season after his miscues last year. I think that shows. He had a very strong training camp. Brown is no longer in the picture, but he already seems to have a trio of favorite targets in tight end Austin Hooper and receivers Robert Woods and Kyle Philips.

Season predictions

AFC title game: Bills 30, Raiders 26

Super Bowl LVII: Bills 27, Rams 16

Titans predictions

Titans record: 11-6

The reason: The lack of firepower at receiver genuinely scares me. So does the lack of a solid right tackle. But the defense looks to be stacked, and the offense still looks pretty dang formidable when Derrick Henry is a part of it. Teams that can run the ball, stop the run and rush the passer usually win. I'd expect the Titans to do all three well enough to make it back to the playoffs.

One bold prediction: Kyle Philips will be the most valuable fantasy football receiver on the team, leading the Titans in receptions and receiving touchdowns.

Titans’ offensive MVP: Derrick Henry

Titans’ defensive MVP: Jeffery Simmons

Stats for Ryan Tannehill: 11 wins ... making three seasons in a row with double-digit victories. That's the only statistic that matters.

Rushing yards for Derrick Henry: 1,650. I do think his workload will decrease. And it probably should by now.

Receiving yards for top pick Treylon Burks: 625.

Where Titans’ offense will rank: 16th in points, 22th in yards gained

Where Titans’ defense will rank: 3rd in points allowed, 8th in yards allowed

Will Tannehill overachieve or underachieve in 2022? He'll overachieve. Because he always overachieves. He’s a chronically underrated quarterback. The real question, though, is whether he'll achieve anything in the postseason.

Titans predictions

Titans record: 9-8

The reason: This schedule is sneaky challenging, with home games against Cincinnati, Denver, Dallas and Las Vegas along with road games at Green Bay. LA Chargers, Buffalo, Philadelphia and Kansas City. Add the two Colts games, and you've got a lot of toss-ups. That's a lot of good QBs for Ryan Tannehill to keep up with this year. Derrick Henry's return is important, but Tannehill and Henry without a No. 1 receiver and a good offensive line is not good enough to improve on last year's record.

One bold prediction: The Titans will not make the playoffs. Yes, they will still be a difficult team to play against. Yes, Derrick Henry will be a handful. The margin of error is slim, and Harold Landry's season-ending knee injury narrows yet another position in terms of depth. Ryan Tannehill will need a big season from Robert Woods to prove me wrong.

Titans’ offensive MVP: Derrick Henry

Titans’ defensive MVP: Kevin Byard

Stats for Ryan Tannehill: 3,700 yards, 28 total touchdowns and 13 interceptions

Rushing yards for Derrick Henry: 1,450.

Receiving yards for top pick Treylon Burks: 610.

Where Titans’ offense will rank: 14th in points, 24th in yards gained

Where Titans’ defense will rank: 9th in points allowed, 12th in yards allowed

Will Tannehill overachieve or underachieve in 2022? What does this even mean in 2022? Tannehill is similar to several different veteran quarterbacks outside the elite tier. We've seen the top end (2020) and the bottom end (2021) of Tannehill's play.

Tannehill will look more like the 2021 version. The problem isn't necessarily exclusive to Tannehill. Under new offensive coordinator Todd Downing, Tannehill's yards per attempt and passer rating dropped in 2021. Julio Jones and A.J Brown are gone. The offensive line still has questions.

AFC division winners: Baltimore, Indianapolis, Buffalo, Kansas City

AFC wild cards: LA Chargers, Cincinnati, Miami

AFC title game: Buffalo 35, Baltimore 31

Super Bowl LVII: Tampa Bay 42, Buffalo 31. The newest season of The Masked Singer premieres immediately following the Super Bowl on FOX.

Titans predictions

Titans record: 10-7

The reason: Tennessee has a couple of offensive weapons to dominate over most AFC South teams, including the Jaguars and the Texans. If Derrick Henry stays healthy and Ryan Tannehill utilizes receivers Robert Woods and rookie Treylon Burks, the Titans could effectively boast a campaign for the postseason.

One bold prediction: Malik Willis and Ryan Tannehill will be in a QB battle at some point this season. Willis started all preseason games and demonstrated that he has all the elements to become a leader. He may become a useful weapon if the Vrabel ends up re-evaluating during a mid-season slump.

Titans’ offensive MVP: Derrick Henry

Titans’ defensive MVP: Jeffery Simmons

Stats for Ryan Tannehill: 3,500 yards, 26 TDs, 10 INTs

Rushing yards for Derrick Henry: 1,600

Where Titans’ offense will rank: 10th in points, 11th in yards gained

Where Titans’ defense will rank: 19th in points allowed, 22nd in yards allowed

Will Tannehill overachieve or underachieve in 2022? Underachieve. With rookie Malik Willis looking over his shoulder and collecting more experience in the league, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Tannehill on the bench at some point this year. The veteran quarterback may boost the team up early in the season, but issues with the Titans’ offense could end up giving Willis a chance.

AFC division winners: Baltimore, Tennessee, Buffalo, Kansas City

AFC title game: Buffalo 45, Kansas City 41

Super Bowl LVII: Buffalo 35, Tampa Bay 21

Titans predictions

Titans record: 11-6

The reason: Tennessee won’t earn the AFC’s No. 1 playoff seed for the second straight year, but it will be in contention for it when it travels to Jacksonville in Week 18. The November stretch is brutal, with road games at Kansas City and Green Bay and home games against Denver and Cincinnati. If the Titans go 2-2 in that stretch, 11 wins are within reach.

One bold prediction: The Titans will go 6-0 against the AFC South, winning a nail-biter in Indianapolis and avoiding late-season letdowns against Houston and at Jacksonville with playoff seeding on the line.

Titans’ offensive MVP: Derrick Henry.

Titans’ defensive MVP: Jeffery Simmons.

Stats for Ryan Tannehill: 3,500 yards passing, 28 TDs, 10 INTs.

Rushing yards for Derrick Henry: 1,999.

Starts for top pick Treylon Burks: 45 rec., 750 yards, 5 TDs

Where Titans’ offense will rank: 10th in points, 10th in yards gained

Where Titans’ defense will rank: 12th in points allowed, 15th in yards allowed

Will Tannehill overachieve or underachieve in 2022? Overachieve, and he won’t have to throw for 4,000 yards to do it. With Malik Willis waiting in the wings, a motivated Tannehill will have one of the most efficient years of his career, with wins over Buffalo, Cincinnati and Denver.
