2022 World Cup betting: Brazil, France and England have the best odds to win

The 2022 World Cup field is set.

Costa Rica became the 32nd team in the tournament on Tuesday with a 1-0 win over New Zealand in the final World Cup qualifier. Joel Campbell scored in the third minute for the Costa Ricans as they held off a 10-man New Zealand over the final 20 minutes to secure a spot in the World Cup.

Australia qualified for the World Cup on Monday with a win over Peru in penalty kicks. The Aussies got into the tournament after Graham Arnold put Andrew Redmayne in goal before the shootout. Redmayne then made the game-winning save to get Australia its fifth consecutive World Cup bid.

Neither Australia or Costa Rica are near the top of the board to win the tournament at BetMGM, however. The Australians are at +25000 to win the tournament while Costa Rica is at +75000 and the long shot of the tournament.

Brazil is the favorite to win the World Cup this fall at +400. Defending World Cup champion France is at +550 along with Euro 2020 runners-up England. Brazil’s status as the favorite is boosted by a relatively weak Group G. The Brazilians are in the same group as Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon and would face the No. 2 team from Group H if it wins the group in the first knockout round.

France, meanwhile, has Australia, Denmark and Tunisia in its group. The French are heavy favorites to win Group D while Denmark is the clear No. 2 team in the group.

England is with the United States, Wales and Iran in Group B. The winner of Group B will likely face one of Senegal, Ecuador or Qatar in the Round of 16 as the Netherlands is a big favorite to win Group A.

Brazil and England have the best odds of any team to win their group. Both teams are at -350 to finish first in their respective groups while France is at -275 to win its group.

Euro 2020 champions Italy are not in the World Cup after failing to qualify for the tournament along with African Cup of Nations finalist Egypt and Sweden and Chile among many others.

With the 32-team field now set, here’s a look at the odds for each team to win the World Cup. The tournament starts in Qatar on Monday, Nov. 21, when Senegal faces the Netherlands.
