The new year is here, and with it comes exciting times for the Fayetteville area food scene.

The changes seem to come in pairs: two rooftop restaurants are planned downtown; food truck parks could open in Haymount and Hope Mills; and 7 Brew is opening drive-thru coffee stands in Fayetteville and Spring Lake.

Other possible developments include a Korean restaurant at the mall, a Wawa on Raeford Road and a wholesale grocery store off Morganton Road.

New year, new menu

Fry Papi's new menu includes chicken bacon ranch cheese fries, tacos and a burrito.

A few restaurants and food trucks are revamping their menus this year, too. Among them is Fry Papi food truck, which added chicken bacon ranch-loaded fries, street tacos, American tacos and a California burrito to its offerings. As a ranch fanatic, I’m thrilled by the new additions.

Vagabond Cafe downtown recently released a winter menu, including a riff on Coquito, a Puerto Rican spiced coconut milk drink usually served around the holidays. The cafe's version includes pistachio flavor, which I’m excited to try. There’s also a cookie butter white mocha and a Mexican caramel latte, all on the menu through February.

C&S Ice food truck is cold-weather ready with recent additions like hot chocolate and donuts to their usual Philadelphia Water Ice menu. All of the above are Instagram-worthy!

Regional chain Mac’s Speed Shop on McPherson Church Road added five new menu items available through February. The stick-to-your-ribs fare includes pulled pork egg rolls, bacon-wrapped meatloaf and Kansas City style beef ribs.

In case I missed it

Today, I’m working on a story about a few food scene updates over the past couple months that we haven’t yet reported on.  I think we cover Fayetteville area food better than anyone else, but I’m just one person eating three meals a day. If you spotted a new food business that should be on my radar, don’t hesitate to reach out.

What other restaurants have changed their menus recently? What food openings are you looking forward to this year? I’d love to hear from you. Reach out with your comments, questions and story ideas at tshook@gannett.com.

Happy Eating!
