2023 kicker Carson Allen commits to Mississippi State football, Mike Leach

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State added a preferred walk-on kicker to its 2023 class Wednesday with the commitment of Carson Allen.

Allen is a Woodstock, Georgia, native who attended Etowah High School. He does not have a 247Sports rating, but Kohl's Kicking Camps list Allen as the No. 41 kicker in the class. The Atlanta-Journal Constitution named Allen to its Class 6A all-state preseason team.

He drew attention from Purdue, Indiana and Vanderbilt.

Allen joins a kicking room at MSU looking for increased stability and depth by next season. In 2021, the Bulldogs missed 11 of 25 field goals — including three in a loss at Arkansas that led to coach Mike Leach calling for an open tryout postgame.

Kicker Brandon Ruiz left for the NFL, and Nolan McCord transferred. Mississippi State brought in Massimo Biscardi and Ben Raybon in hopes of addressing the need.
