The 2023 Newmar Dutch Star RV is a state-of-the-art 'luxury jet' on wheels. Take a peek

Those in the RV world know about the Newmar Dutch Star, a motor coach that has been around for decades. The 2023 model, however, boasts lots of updates and new features.

“The construction, quality, and craftsmanship (always) stay the same," Eric Romero, lead salesperson and motor home specialist at Campers Inn RV, told The Courier Journal. "All the wood is (still) handcrafted in-house. … New for this year is (the design) and technology."

Updated design

The Newmar Dutch Star is available in 37-, 40-, and 43-foot coaches. In all rear-bath floor plans, the 2023 model features a cathedral ceiling, which is a Newmar first. Though it adds six inches of headroom, the feature is virtually invisible from the outside.

"(There’s also) new lighting and centerpieces for the ceiling," Romero added.

The motor coach boasts four new décor choices, too. Each includes its own distinct awning color; flooring, fabric, and countertop options; and both matte and high-gloss cabinetry finish choices.

Every décor option includes the Newmar full-paint Masterpiece finish, which is an industry-exclusive coating made with superior-quality BASF paints. Every coach is painted with 12 to 16 gallons of paint, including several types of primer, a base coat, graphics, and a clear coat. Prior to delivery, the finish is inspected to ensure it is free of defects and lays flat and smooth.

Improved technology

"Another feature new for 2023 is the Firefly System," Romero said. "This whole coach is a Smart coach — you can operate (it) with the touch of a button."

He explains that from a 10-inch central monitor panel, users can easily control numerous aspects of the Dutch Star.

"You can control your generator … pair your Bluetooth, control all you AC, kill lights, (or) dim lights," he said. "You can control everything (from the screen). This was not available last year."

There is also a mobile app that can be paired with the new technology via Bluetooth, allowing any smartphone to be utilized as a remote control for the system.

Romero adds that other new features — such as lane awareness and haptic feedback — increase safety and make driving the Dutch Star even easier.

"(The seat) will vibrate … letting you know you're too much to the left or too much to the right," he explained.

Continued comfort

Despite the 2023 model's new design and tech aspects, Romero maintains that the best feature of the Dutch Star is its drivability.

"One of the biggest features with Newmar itself is its Comfort Drive system," he said. "(It has) computer-automated steering controls, (which) take away all your driver’s fatigue factors."

He explains that very little mechanical input is needed to drive the coach.

"(You) just point it in (the right) direction, and it just does what you want," he said. "Even at a standstill, (you can use) your weakest finger and turn your steering wheel all the way to (the) max angle, and it’ll automatically correct itself and bring itself straight again."

Romero adds that the 40- and 43-foot coaches feature a tag axle, which creates an extremely sharp turning radius.

"If I were to hug a wall and make a U-turn," he explained, "I could make that U-turn in half the size of the (space). In a gas motor home … it would be more of a three-point turn."

An RV owner himself, Romero has spent countless hours out on the road and at various sites with his family as well as his customers.

"Your adventures start (as soon as you) start the ignition and head out," he exclaimed. "(The) biggest advantage of being in a motor home is you’re in your own luxury jet. You can sleep, use the bathroom, do everything while you’re going down the road."

Campers Inn RV will have the 2023 Dutch Star, as well as other motor homes, on display at the 2023 Discover Boating Louisville Boat, RV, & Sportshow.
