Are you an incumbent? No

Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought) Belleville Alderperson Ward 1 - three times

Occupation: Retired / self-employed

Education: High school diploma

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: Previous president of neighborhood watch

Who are your top three campaign contributors? None

Why are you running? To bring some honesty and openness to Ward 1. I would like to bring back town hall meetings for the ward.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? As I have expressed to the BND, I believe a poll should be created to ask all of the residents of their ward of what they believe the top issue is. This can also be incorporated into my planned town hall meetings. My personal top issue remains infrastructure. A hole around the drainage ditch on East B Street has existed since 2018 with no action being taken by the city.

Why should people vote for you? I am honest and hard working. I have time to take on this job and meet and discuss issues with residents.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Patty Gregory? I believe she is doing a poor job and I hope there is something left of the city when she is done.

The BND has not received a response from Belleville City Council Ward 1 candidate Kurt Daesch.

Belleville City Council Ward 5

Edward A. Dintelman
Edward A. Dintelman

NAME: EDWARD A. DINTELMAN

Age as of April 4, 2023: 68

Office seeking: Ward 5 alderman

Are you an incumbent? Yes

Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought) Yes, Ward 5 alderman two terms

Occupation: I am a retired electrician from US Steel

Education: Belleville East High School, SWIC

Please list highlights of your civic involvement:

  • 2015 - Present: Ward 5 alderman

  • 2015 - 1996: Belleville Parks and Recreation Committee person

Who are your top three campaign contributors? I am an independent and self-supported.

Why are you running? Two years ago a fellow alderman was running for re-election. When I asked him why, he said, “There is so much more to do in Belleville.” He was spot on and now I am running for the same reason. I have more knowledge now on how to run a city than ever before so I too want to help for four more years before I retire.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? I would like to bring more businesses to town, work on infrastructure and improve our neighborhoods.

Why should people vote for you? I am open minded, honest and fair.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Patty Gregory? She is doing a fine job. Mayor Patty had plans to move the city forward and did not disappoint. She has many more ideas that we haven’t heard yet, but will soon. Go Patty!

Office seeking: Belleville Ward 5 alderman

Are you an incumbent? No

Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought) Previously ran for Belleville Ward 5 alderman. Was appointed to a vacancy as a Belleville Township trustee.

Occupation: Software developer

Education: Three years Northeastern University (Boston, Mass.), electrical engineering/computer science

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: My involvement in local politics began in 2012, when the city was finalizing plans to demolish the Meredith Home to make room for a park. I met with my alderman. I began attending city council meetings. I asked questions. Most importantly, I joined the grassroots effort that saved one of the city’s historic landmarks, which now serves as a home for low-income and disabled persons. I have since kept a watchful eye on local government actions and expenditures. I discovered waste and inefficiency, which can be reduced or eliminated.

While serving as Belleville Township trustee, I voted to dissolve the township and saved taxpayers more than $250,000 per year by transferring the General Assistance Program to the city of Belleville.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? My campaign is self-funded with modest contributions from close friends. I am beholden to no one but the citizens of Belleville.

Why are you running? It’s past time that elected officials worked for taxpayers, not a corporate salesman pitching a pie-in-the-sky, $100 million business complex that never materialized – and cost taxpayers millions of dollars to extend the sewer system. Or the rushed decision to spend nearly $500,000 on a sewer extension when a developer promised to build an office complex and 72 high-end homes that never materialized. I support economic development that benefits Belleville without risking taxpayer funds.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? Seeing that our tax dollars are spent in ways that save money, and putting those savings into the hands of taxpayers and their families.

Why should people vote for you? Along with my experience as a government watchdog with vast knowledge of city operations and departments (especially TIFs), I’ll bring technical skills to improve online communications and make it easier for the public to follow the workings of city government.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Patty Gregory? I’m very pleased that Mayor Gregory allows the aldermen to discuss and formulate city policy in the committee meetings. Even at the committee meetings she occasionally attends, the mayor politely speaks her mind then listens as the aldermen proceed. I look forward to working with Mayor Gregory and her administration.

Occupation: Electrical, network and radio frequency engineer

Please list highlights of your civic involvement:

Belleville Historical Society. I am the secretary for the Belleville Historical Society. We host several events in Belleville to promote our mission The mission of the Belleville Historical Society is to promote awareness and appreciation of the history, customs, artifacts, architecture and people of the city of Belleville, Illinois. Come Join us!

St. Clair County Amateur Radio Club Inc. I am the secretary for SCARC. The mission of SCARC is to promote HAM amateur radio by providing resources such as VE testing for licenses and nets to connect local HAMs. I am also registered with the Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES). Both organizations help gather and distribute information through amateur radio frequencies in emergency situations. I earned my amateur radio technician license last year and am studying for the general license.

St. Clair County Historical Society. Last year I began my journey with the St. Clair County Historical Society as a tour guide for the St. Clair County Historical Society’s Haunted Historical Belleville Walking Tour. I enjoyed the experience so much that I am working with the committee to develop this year’s tour.

Belleville Philharmonic Orchestra. I joined the orchestra as an alto in the choir in 2021. I have since filled in other roles in the orchestra such as sound reinforcement for events, and event coordination for some venues.

Moose Lodge Swansea/Belleville. I was introduced to the Moose Lodge through SCARC as it is the location of the club meetings. I have since joined and enjoy the community that comes with being a member.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? I am funding my own campaign.

Why are you running? To be part of this world means to be part of a community. It’s important for skilled individuals to contribute to their community as well as use their skills in their place of work to build a better tomorrow. My mission is to propel Belleville and Ward 7 towards a bright future fulfilling the needs of our current residents and providing opportunities for growth.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? The top issue of my campaign is the well-being of Ward 7. We have stagnant infrastructure that impacts my potential constituents. Poorly managed development from the last century causes flooding to occur in our neighborhoods, and prior replacement of water and sewer infrastructure has damaged roads through improper road restoration. The remediation of these issues depends on money, more money than what is locally available. It is my plan to work with state and federal entities to make common-sense engineering decisions to reduce the impact on my ward as well as passing ordinances that prevent poor right-of-way restoration in the future.

Why should people vote for you? People should vote for me because I am process-oriented and well-versed in engineering outcomes with predictable results. I am familiar with working alongside community organizations, leveraging the strengths of all to make projects successful. At work, I manage projects in excess of millions of dollars. These projects require managing interdepartmental teamwork. Despite challenges and roadblocks, I deliver positive results to my customers, and I plan to do the same for my potential constituents.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Patty Gregory? The direction of the city is not defined by one individual, but by a team that can put differences aside and work together to make a better tomorrow. Belleville has had its ups and downs and most of our upswings are swept in on the wings of money. May that money be from a grant or taxation. We have recently seen great investment in our city with the demolition of the Executive Inn, and the reimagining of the old Lindenwood Campus. Belleville is fortunate to house the Southern Illinois Law Enforcement Center, which has brought new business to Main Street and reduced crime in town. These investments in the city align with my mission to drive results for making Ward 7 a robust and alluring neighborhood to live in.

Office seeking: 7th Ward alderman city of Belleville

Are you an incumbent? Yes

Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought) Yes, alderman, mayor & county board

Occupation: Insurance broker

Education: Belleville East High School and Broadcast Center

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: Past Member of Belleville Jaycees, Optimist Club and volunteer at Belleville Parks and Recreation Department. Created The Tour de Belleville and helped with the Belleville Dog Park.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? None

Why are you running? I enjoy communicating with the residents of Belleville and constituents of the 7th Ward. Experience right now on the City Council is imperative. Belleville is seeing progress like we’ve never seen before. Because I have learned from previous elected officials and city department heads, I can be an asset to our current administration.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? The ability to evaluate the direction of new housing that will be coming to the east end of Belleville with additional development already happening. Single-family homes and maintaining neighborhood safety are my goals. Proceeding with effective growth top priority.

Why should people vote for you? Experience. During this positive growth we are seeing, the residents will rely on someone with the knowledge of our existing infrastructure, public safety and future economic development. Dennis Weygandt and I work well together for our residents. I would hate to see the 7th Ward lose that knowledge and experience.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Patty Gregory? The economic development the Gregory administration secured at the former Lindenwood Campus is far reaching beyond that property. It is the positive growth we have needed. The Police Department not having a contract that would attract new officers and only lose current officers has now been rectified. We have more police officers when other municipalities are under staffed. Mayor Gregory and I have not agreed on everything. But we can work together and move this city and the 7th Ward forward. We have respect for each other. She appears, to me, to be a team builder for the good of our community.

Office seeking: Alderman Ward 8 city of Belleville

Are you an incumbent? Yes

Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought) No

Occupation: Designer

Education: Bachelor of art St. Louis University and bachelor of fine art Maryville University

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: I have been involved in local organizations for many years, even going back several decades to Proud Partners. I have contributed to organizations such as Art on the Square, the Queen of Peace Mother’s Club, the Althoff Parents and Friends club, and the Ogles Watch neighborhood organization.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? Friends and family

Why are you running? I am running to continue the progressive agenda set forth for the city for the 21st century. I am running for the future and to make sure our residents want to remain in the city, and our younger generation remains or returns to their hometown. I am running because Ward 8 is great. I am running because I believe in Belleville.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? The top issue in Ward 8 as I see it is to bring a wide array of economic development into the West End of Belleville which in turn maintains and increases the safety and welfare of the residents in the area.

Why should people vote for you? Citizens should vote for me because of my commitment and dedication to the West End of Belleville. As someone who was raised here, and who has raised her own children here, my family and I are committed to Belleville for the future. As an alderman, I have served on the Police and Fire Committee, the Economic Development Committee, the Ordinance and Legal Committee and the Personnel Committee. I have worked with department heads to bring awareness to issues such as street improvements and new development. I have also voted to increase our police force when given the opportunity. I am devoted to making Belleville a thriving and progressive community for the future while honoring the city’s unique history.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Patty Gregory? I believe that the city of Belleville has been moving in a positive direction because of several factors. The demolition of unsightly properties and the establishment of the Southwestern Illinois Justice and Workforce Development Campus are a few of the accomplishments that have been achieved under Mayor Gregory’s leadership. The purchase of the Fairgrounds also highlights the city and county partnership that demonstrates the collaboration of the city with other entities. As an alderman, it has been an honor to collaborate with the mayor and the council to bring projects to fruition and to grow the economic base of Belleville. As a strong community with a dynamic leader, I believe the city of Belleville is accepting challenges and confronting issues, and at the same time bringing new and innovative ideas to the city.

Why are you running? I intend to seek the well-being of Ward 8 citizens and our city.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? My main concern after receiving the 2022 property assessment card is keeping Belleville’s portion down by carefully considering how each budget action affects property owner’s taxes.

Why should people vote for you? I am a capable outsider who has lived here 21 years and who has no connections.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Patty Gregory? I especially like the direction Mayor Gregory is taking in wanting what I considered to be the input of the spiritual leaders/churches in our area. I believe it would breathe fresh life back into our communities within Belleville.

Occupation: Retired - 35 years at Channel 2 as a technical director

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: N/A

Who are your top three campaign contributors? N/A

Why are you running? To provide Belleville amenities as a great place to live, as I did when growing up here. From 2010-2020 we lost 2,000 residents, almost 5% of citizens.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? Belleville community center, including indoor swimming pool, workout rooms, multi use rooms for meetings, etc. Let’s find creative ways to get businesses here. The number of TIF districts in Belleville is astounding with 17 active ones and 7 inactive ones. They aren’t living up to their potential.

Why should people vote for you? I have a unique background, as I was technical director for several thousand Channel 2 newscasts, including hundreds of interviews with local politicians. I witnessed plenty of lies, distortions, omission of facts and lame excuses for poor decisions. Belleville is not growing, but just treading water. Look at Swansea, O’Fallon, Shiloh, Columbia and Edwardsville if you want to see progress. I moved to Missouri in 1980 and came back in 2016. This house has been in the family 62 years. The population of Belleville in 1970 was 41k and is 42k in 2020.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Patty Gregory? When I called the City Hall finance director about how much Ward 8 contributes to the Belleville budget including business and personal property taxes, sales taxes, business fees, etc, I could not get an answer. When asked about any other wards’ contributions, again, no answer. Is this due diligence? The city owns 2% of the Belle-Clair Fairgrounds while the county owns 98%, meaning the city police and fire departments have to provide 24/7 protection. This 2% purchase was done in a special closed door session. What? I regularly watch City Council meetings on YouTube and am astounded by the way the city does business. Mayor Patty, let’s make just two words you like to start meetings with, accountability and transparency.

Why are you running? My record as an officeholder is one of responsibility, dedication, reliability and leadership, traits that are non-negotiable to serving the interests of our community. I have a passion for Caseyville and am determined to make it the best place possible to visit, work or operate a new or existing business. But above all, I have a genuine will to serve my neighbors and fellow citizens. The foundation of my candidacy is purely based on what I can do as a trustee for the village as a whole and the people who make Caseyville their home. A great public official must be driven to serve and make personal sacrifices for the greater good of all. This is what I would look for in any candidate running for public office, and I trust it is what the people of Caseyville expect from me. I have given all I have to those values and promise to again, with the goal of delivering beyond expectations.

What is the top issue in your race and how would you address it? Our residents have long understood and appreciated Caseyville’s ability and potential to prosper. How we do that to the benefit of all, and how we do it responsibly, is what matters. What we know today is that Caseyville is rising, as it should be. Our geographic location and capacity for growth makes Caseyville a destination for businesses interested in relocating, starting or expanding. Our administration has been at the forefront of new businesses, restaurants and public works improvements, and we are proud of the new subdivisions being developed to welcome hundreds of new families to our community. A new TIF was established along with the approval of a new business district and Enterprise Zone, all contributing to what promises to be our best days ahead. I am proud of our progress and am committed to doing my part so that it continues.

Why should people vote for you? I trust our residents and business owners want the same thing I do, and that is a community that will be ambitious but do things the proper way while always keeping in mind the benefits of being a small town, where neighbors become friends for life. My record as a trustee over the past eight years has been true to those principles, which I hope are the same ones that are important to everyone in Caseyville. If they are, I would be appreciative of the support of our voters to continue in this mission as their trustee.

Occupation: Operations manager

Education: High school graduate, 1996

Highlight your civic involvement: None currently

Who are your top three campaign contributors? I have not accepted donations from anyone other than myself.

Why are you running? I am seeking election to this office because I have a deep level of care for this community. I feel I have a lot to offer, given my knowledge of government on multiple levels, and I keep up with current business and issues in our community.

What is the top issue in your race and how would you address it? We need to get back to giving Caseyville that small-town community feel, where people want to move and stay here instead of selling and moving to other communities. We need to get away from the vindictive way politics leads some people and focus on providing services to the residents of Caseyville. Let’s bring a focus of increased police patrols throughout neighborhoods on a consistent basis. We need to be fiscally responsible with tax dollars to stretch them as far as we can to offer more to our community as a whole. Offer jobs to those who live in the community first instead of going outside the boundaries, as there are plenty of residents who are qualified to be village employees. Give people more assistance to clean up their properties to get rid of more eyesores, which will give our community a much better look for people passing through and give current residents appreciation for having a clean community.

Why should people vote for you? I have a vested interest in this community as a whole. I have parents, siblings and my children all live in this community. I want them to feel good that they reside in the village of Caseyville. I want that for all residents. I would strive to get Caseyville to the next level of being that community that people want to come and reside in. Construct a 10-year improvement plan that is actually obtainable instead of just putting things down to look good and changing it every three years. Let’s bring back a Spring Fling Festival or something of that nature to get the community back to actually feeling like a community instead of one that seems to be becoming one where people do not even know their neighbors’ names. It takes all of us to make a community, and I am ready to go to work.

Why are you running? I am running for village trustee to help the community. I will push to reduce the property tax levy for village residents and get new playground equipment (existing equipment is approximately 16 years old). I also want to allow the community to get involved and not be afraid to ask questions. Today, residents who do get involved and ask questions get pressure from elected officials.

What is the top issue in your race and how would you address it? We need to reduce property taxes by controlling spending and to work with other leaders in the county and state to support some growth within Caseyville.

Why should people vote for you? I will be the voice of reason for the people of Caseyville. I am someone who would help everyone and help the community grow. Many years have passed Caseyville by without the growth that other communities have seen.

Why are you running? I am running to take an active role in making changes that will shape the future of the community. I chose to start my family in Caseyville. I plan to help give current and future residents, as well as local businesses, a voice, thus making an impact on the legislation that affects them the most.

What is the top issue in your race and how would you address it? I oppose the wasteful spending of our tax dollars. We need to review the overall budgets which, if successful, could reduce property tax and water-rate increases. We can further the cause by enforcing village ordinances to “help one another” with property cleanup and upkeep of our homes and local businesses.

Why should people vote for you? Vote for change! I support an open and transparent government. We need to rebuild our “community spirit” and have more village-sponsored events throughout the year. This will not only bring our community together, but invite people from other communities to visit and see all that Caseyville has to offer.

Campaign website or social media page: Website: https:www.marieformayor.com, Instagram _teamfranklin_, Facebook Marie A. Franklin for mayor

Office seeking: Mayor of East St. Louis

Are you an incumbent? No

Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought) No

Occupation: Community organizer

Education: East St. Louis High School Class of 1980, Bradley University Peoria, Illinois Class of 1984

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: As a lifelong resident of East St. Louis, I have fought hard for my people. I have organized on the local and state level to bring positive change to our community.

As the president of my neighborhood association, the Concerned Citizens of Precinct 12, I sent letters to property owners regarding compliance with city codes. I was able to get several owners in our neighborhood to clean their property.

As a member of the RISE 189 Campaign, I organized with a group of leaders (parents, grandparents and stakeholders) that researched and proposed strategies to raise test scores in District 189.

I also worked with residents to present legislation about Community Benefit Agreements to the City Council to ensure that residents would benefit from any new development in the city. As mayor, I will adopt this policy to enact Community Benefit Agreements.

On a state level, I organized local citizens and organizations in lobbying to state legislators to pass the historical Pretrial Fairness Act, which will make IL the first state in the country to end cash bail.

I organized local citizens to lobby state legislators to pass the Clean Energy and Equitable Jobs Act. This legislation requires the state to move to clean energy by 2050. The act also requires the state to locate a job hub in East St. Louis to train residents in clean energy jobs and to support residents in opening clean energy businesses.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? Please refer to our quarterly report filed with the Illinois Board of Elections. Our team is running a lean campaign. Most of our donations have come from 1) individuals in the community, 2) East St. Louis natives who have relocated, and 3) family. We have not and will not accept any contributions from any political parties or corporations. To bring a new culture to city hall, we will not be beholden to anyone, except the citizens of East St. Louis.

Why are you running? I am running because I want to bring integrity and accountability back to the leadership of my city. I want to change the culture of city hall to make it resident-friendly. Our residents deserve far more than basic services. They deserve leadership that knows what makes a thriving community. I want our residents to be a part of the decision making that impacts us. I am running because I want to reclaim our city from career politicians who are not leading based on the best interest of our residents.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? The top issue in this race is the lack of integrity and stability in our leadership. In just the past two months, leadership has fired key members of the establishment such as the city manager, the assistant chief and the chief of police. This has created chaos at city hall. The citizens that we have talked to feel as if no one is in charge.

I will bring integrity and stability to city hall. My decisions will be transparent and include insight from the community. No longer will the citizens wonder from one day to the next who is in charge.

Why should people vote for you? People should vote for me because I have a proven track record of fighting for my people and bringing change to our community. As mayor, I will use my platform to advocate for our city on a county, state and national level. No longer will we be isolated and neglected.

I have prepared myself to be the leader that this city needs. A leader who is not afraid to be transparent or held accountable. I was trained in community organizing by the Gamaliel Network, the same organization that trained President Obama. I completed USML’S Sue Shear Institute for women in public life and Chisholm’s Chair training for women seeking leadership positions. I am a graduate of WePower Power Building Academy. I also completed Emerging Leaders Training with JustLeadershipUSA. I have been prepared for such a time as this.

This preparation will guide me in moving this city into the future. We will be on the forefront of what a thriving urban community is. I have a hope and a fire for my community, and I will make our city reflect the beautiful citizens who live here.

I have the courage and the integrity to hire qualified individuals for all positions at the city. All positions under my leadership will be held to the highest standard. By the same token we will support the employees and create a workplace that will celebrate people who do their best. Employees will not be subject to arbitrary firing because of the candidate they support. Nor will they be arbitrarily hired because of who they know.

I am seeking those folks who share my vision for the city and will benefit the residents. It has been a long time coming but it is time.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Robert Eastern III? My assessment includes the entire city leadership - the mayor, the city council and the other elected officials. And that assessment gives a grade of F.

I always say, the proof is in the pudding. Our streets remain in disrepair, our residents lack opportunities and quality housing, and we have seen little development despite our advantageous location. The few positive things that are happening, i.e. the State Police headquarters being built and the New Lansdowne Up Development, are happening despite the current leadership.

We cannot take another four years of the current leadership.

Why are you running? I am running because I want to see the city prosper. For decades, the city of East St. Louis has been suffering from a lack of servant leadership and vision. I am running for city council because I was born and raised in East St. Louis and I care about what happens here. We are in a state of emergency in East St. Louis and I could no longer sit on the sidelines while my community continues to decline and suffer. I had to step up and use my skills, talents and resources to help turn East St. Louis into a model city.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? Economic development is a top issue. I have innovative ideas for the development of our original downtown. We will pour resources into the Majestic Theater and the surrounding downtown area.

Our youth have been ignored for too long. As a councilman, I will push to create a partnership between local business owners and the city of East St. Louis to launch programs geared towards the professional development of young Black entrepreneurs in our city.

Running the city is a business. I know how to conduct business and connect resources. Once I get into office, I will do this on an even larger scale. I will push for fresh, new policies at city hall to make sure every city employee and elected official is held to a high moral standard.

Why should people vote for you? In the past, our city has been led by people who seem to care very little about the well-being of the citizens. I am a servant leader and I will lead with integrity and faithfulness.

Born and bred in East St. Louis, I earned a B.S. in criminal justice, a master’s degree in business administration, and a master of arts in teaching/education. I founded a nonprofit to provide business education and financial literacy services to youth in East St. Louis. I pulled together partners and resources to launch programs that empower the youth through entrepreneurship and sound financial stewardship. These programs have positively impacted the lives of countless youth in our city. A vote for me is a vote for integrity, economic development and servant leadership.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Robert Eastern III? I measure the mayor’s and council’s success based on the success of the city. Right now, East St. Louis is not a successful and thriving city. We suffer from substandard education, lack of resources, government corruption and so much more. The city continues to decline and the citizens continue to suffer. That is a problem for me.

Occupation: Architectural design professional

Education: BARCH Hampton University

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: My civic involvement centers around highlighting and protecting our city’s greatest gems, including the people.

I co-founded I am East St. Louis the Magazine with my late wife, Charmaine Savage. The magazine serves to correct the narrative about East St. Louis by telling stories of current and past residents. We have published over 25 issues to date.

I also lead the I am East St. Louis Foundation, through which I host a speaker series and collaborate on local public art projects. Murals in particular, are one way we have been able to preserve historic landmarks.

As the President of one of East St. Louis’s landmarks, the Katherine Dunham Museum, I assisted them in regaining ownership of the surrounding homes, saving them from demolition. We also secured local and state funds to enact a development plan for the neighborhood.

In addition to the importance of preserving landmarks, I am passionate about improving housing and development in East St. Louis. I previously served on the Board for the East St. Louis Housing Authority, where we regained ownership after 32 years of receivership.

While serving on the Planning Commission, we were awarded a planning grant to develop 500 new housing units in the central business district.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? Throughout my campaign, I have been intentional about seeking contributions from individuals who live and/or are from East St. Louis. I have not received or sought any donations from special interest groups and am proud to remain unbought and unbossed. A copy of our report filed with the State Board of Elections is available on the Board’s official website (www.elections.il.gov) or for purchase from the State Board of Elections, Springfield, Illinois.

Why are you running? I want to see our citizens enjoy all the benefits of a flourishing city. Development continues to happen around East St. Louis, and often at the expense of East St. Louis. This is unacceptable. Being positioned where we are - on the riverfront opposite of St. Louis, with access to all modes of transportation - there’s no reason we shouldn’t have amenities that other cities enjoy. My experience in the construction and design industry positions me to bring the right developers to the table and get results.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? The largest issue facing East St. Louis is a lack of vision and cohesiveness among leadership. This lack of vision has caused us to miss opportunities to experience major positive growth.

For example, the Mid-America Medical District was expanded out of our city. That expansion was supposed to take place within East St. Louis, but our leadership allowed it to go to another city.

As a councilman, I will implement a strategic plan for development in our city. Our downtown is the front porch to our city, and an introduction to the rest of our community. We need to start there. My vision includes restoring attractions like the Old Majestic Theater, rehabbing vacant buildings (like my alma mater, Senior Lincoln High School) for new use, and returning East St. Louis the arts destination it once was.

Why should people vote for you? People should vote for me because I bring proven experience from my civic and professional life that will be essential to our city’s growth. My work in the region includes multi-million dollar projects such as the Foundry in St. Louis and the Casino Queen (a $92 million project), as well as scattered housing sites off of Forest Park Drive in East St. Louis that provides up-to-date quality living for residents in public housing.

These qualifications will be key to moving the city forward.

Also, I will ensure residents benefit as we rebuild our city. They will have a voice in building out the vision, and they will be first in line for jobs that come from new development.

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Robert Eastern III? The current leadership has lacked vision in making our city a 21st century city.

Why are you running? To make a positive difference in the running of “our” city!

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? The top issues are economic development and the financial state of our city, and also its overall appearance along with the need for trustworthy and accountable elected officials in office that won’t barter away all our opportunities through cronyism and nepotism.

Why should people vote for you? I’m a person that the people can trust and I can be held accountable and also can be trusted to hold others to be accountable as well!

How would you assess the direction of the city under the leadership of Mayor Robert Eastern III? The mayor has worked tirelessly from start to finish, from precinct committeeman to council person to mayor and deserves another term to continue with all the righteous endeavors he has started!

  • Panelist - Community Justice Reform and other forums in relation to improving the relationships between community members and law enforcement.

  • Counselor-Team Illinois Youth Police Camp and former Metro East Cadets of Policing

Who are your top three campaign contributors? I don’t have any “top” campaign contributors. I have self-funded the vast majority of my campaign. There has been several family members and friends that have made contributions by way of knocking on doors and speaking with citizens within Ward 1 of Fairview Heights, IL.

Why are you running? I have been in public service for the majority of my adult life. I have served others in various capacities. I am specifically seeking an opportunity to serve the citizens of Fairview Heights, IL. The core reason I am running is to make an impact in the following areas within Fairview Heights. It should be noted, the order is not rank specific by way of importance.

1. Education

  • Work with city and state leaders to improve our school district and make it one of the preferred school districts within St. Clair County.

  • Explore avenues to ensure all residents living within Ward 1 are afforded the same standard of education as all other Fairview Heights residents.

2. Mentorship

  • Establish mentorship and growth opportunities for all residents of Ward 1.

  • Special emphasis on youth mentorship by providing paths to an assortment of career choices and sharing transparent life experiences.

3. Family

  • Work with city leaders to expand “The Rec” and discover avenues to make it more accessible to all Fairview Heights residents.

  • Create environments within Ward 1 to bring families together that will foster neighborly friendships.

  • Revitalize Fairview Heights Khoury League fields to attract youth baseball.

  • Create outdoor basketball courts within Ward 1.

  • Advocate for more dine-in restaurants on the west end of Fairview Heights.

4. Safety

  • Work with city leaders to ensure Ward 1 remains safe.

  • Encourage the use of modern technology such as surveillance cameras and mass alert messaging.

  • Encourage community policing within all precincts of Ward 1.

  • Work with city leaders to aggressively recruit highly skilled and qualified police officers.

  • Work with city leaders to address vacant buildings and derelict houses.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? In speaking with residents of Ward 1, it seems the top issue like many other communities is the concern for safety within the community. The foundational principles of policing in America are based on protecting and serving citizens, it is paramount these principles remain at the forefront of every single police officer. I have served in the law enforcement field for over 24 years. I have a proven track record of serving the communities in which I have served.

I would encourage top officials to aggressively explore avenues on how to engage residents in a healthy manner by way of community policing, block parties and safety meetings. It is of extreme importance for officers to be visible and communicate (build relationships) with citizens within all precincts.

I would work with city leaders to utilize technology by way of improving safety and deterring crime. The use of surveillance cameras on public streets should be maximized.

As stated in the reasons I am running, mentorship of the youth should also be of importance to law enforcement. I would work with top officials to encourage officers to become active mentors to the youth within Fairview Heights.

Why should people vote for you? I believe Ward 1 residents deserve an alderman who is equipped to work with city leaders to maintain safety and someone who is willing to explore new and innovative ways to deter crime in Fairview Heights. I also believe we should work with our city and state officials to improve our school district and make it a preferred choice.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? I am the sole contributor to my campaign. I’ve funded my campaign out-of-pocket, and managed it on my own.

Why are you running? I am running for alderman of Ward 4 in the city of Fairview Heights because I have a passion for civic engagement. I believe it is my duty to use that passion to contribute politically and non-politically in order to positively impact the communities we love and want to sustain for many generations to come. I believe Fairview Heights is an amazing city with residents who are equally as amazing. There is so much potential for positive growth within the city and in Ward 4, and I am dedicated to working together with my fellow residents to tap into those opportunities for growth and revitalize our city.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? As I’ve been knocking doors and visiting Ward 4 neighborhoods, a common theme I’ve been hearing from residents is that they do not feel a sense of togetherness or belonging in the community. Residents want to feel connected to what’s going on in the city and be informed of new developments, activities and events. I will address this issue by continuing to actively listen to my neighbors, seeking ideas and suggestions from them for what they would like to see happen. I will expand community outreach by hosting new and creative neighborhood and community events we haven’t seen in Fairview Heights. I will focus on bringing Ward 4 residents together to foster a revitalized sense of belonging . Thus, promoting healthy and positive interactions among all residents.

Why should people vote for you? People should vote for me because I am dedicated, honest and hard-working. I am a resident just like everyone else and I share the same sentiments as my neighbors. So, I decided to put myself in a position to be the change we all want to see. People should vote for me because they will have elected an alderman who will always act on behalf of them, and in favor of them with integrity, transparency and service.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? Me, Myself and I! I am funding my own campaign so that I do not answer to anyone but the residents of Fairview Heights and Ward 4.

Why are you running? I am a lifelong resident of Fairview Heights and truly love and appreciate what Fairview Heights has to offer. I am committed to the residents of Ward 4 and continuing to develop our neighborhoods, maintain our property values and respond to you the residents in a timely manner. Economic development is important to the city’s budget, provided it is balanced with residential and long-term growth of the city. Infrastructure is always a top priority and taking the steps to ensure that we maintain our streets and sidewalks, while continuing to address storm water issues in Ward 4 and making on-going improvements.

I fully supported the construction of The Rec and improvements in all seven of our city parks and will continue to support programs for our community to benefit all residents.

Why should people vote for you? I work hard for the residents of Ward 4 and believe in being responsive and following up in a timely manner. • I have been fully available to support all Ward 5 residents and to Fairview Heights residents regardless of where they live.

Why are you running? I am running to continue to serve the residents of Ward 5 and the city of Fairview Heights. There is still much work to complete including supporting law enforcement initiatives to keep our community safe, the latest Comprehensive Plan updates which contain the vision for the city’s future development, upgrades to the city infrastructure, capital improvement pProjects, and responsible budget management to improve standard of living for Ward 5 residents and the city of Fairview Heights.

It is vital to continue to operate the city within a budget that does not require the application of a city real estate tax on residential properties. This is critical to protecting the interests of low income and senior citizen residents in our community.

Focus resources on areas that benefit local residents

From a personal perspective, it is important to continue to support the needs of Ward 5 and ensure resources are fairly allocated to Ward 5 to ensure those needs are met.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? Though there are many important issues, the most important is to make sure the city stays economically stable (through the use of our existing tax structure), and continues budget priorities and responsibilities to operate the city in a manner to provide important city services while not assessing a city property tax on residential properties.

Why should people vote for you? Residents of Ward 5 should vote for me to continue my work in Fairview Heights ensuring needs are met for Ward 5 residents, to continue my support of law enforcement initiatives that will help maintain the safety of our residents and businesses. This work is founded in critical assessments and work in the areas of budget management, assessing priorities to help develop / redevelop those areas that can both improve the standard of living for our residents, and to increase city revenues through economic development without implementing a city real estate tax on residents.

Ward 5 needs a strong and experienced voice on the Fairview Heights City Council. I have been and will continue in that capacity.

Why are you running? I would like to help serve the village, lifting it up to become a thriving rural community that attracts new business and provides a citizen-focused residential environment.

Why are you running? I have an interest in what is happening in our village and would like to help the board make better decisions for our community.

What is the top issue in your race and how would you address it? The top issue, in my opinion is the overall financial condition and what appears to be a lack of accountability, controls and management of our tax dollars. Every fee, bill and tax that can be raised has been yet the erosion of taxpayers funds continues. The village simply cannot continue to spend more then it brings in. I would like to see a board that makes solid, intelligent decisions with our citizens and community at the forefront.

Why should people vote for you? I intend to bring accountability and transparency to our local government. I will provide my support for issue resolution and help make a clear path for the safey and improvement of our community.

Why are you running? I am running to make a difference in the community I grew up in. The town has a lot of potential to be a destination for several events, activities, and future residents, but it takes time and energy to make it happen. There are several new members on the council, and I believe with all of us working together we can make an impact on the city to fix roads, sidewalks, and generate new funds.

What is the top issue in your race and how would you address it? I believe the lack of new infrastructure hinders the town. We have beautiful areas of the city, but without new buildings, roads or sidewalks, these places go unused. There are pushes to beautify the city, and I think we should focus on the infrastructure to coincide with that movement. It is hard to bring new people or businesses into Lebanon if we don’t have the necessary groundwork laid out first.

The government allows local governments to apply for grants and infrastructure is an easy first goal for grant applications. I don’t want to use Lebanon taxpayer money to fund new projects but instead think outside the box.

Why should people vote for you? I have a background in historical studies so I understand the needs and wants of the residents from now and dating further back. I also have a background in business management and marketing so getting new ideas into the town is one of my goals. Throughout my professional career, I have worked with all different size governments which I think allows me to understand the city’s needs.

With being a younger individual running for office, I can bring new perspectives to the council that may have been previously overlooked. There are a lot of younger families and university students in Lebanon, and I can resonate with them because of my age and experience. When meeting people in my ward, I visited with older and younger residents. With my different professional backgrounds and age, I trust that I can bridge a gap between the generations that can help us all and Lebanon.

Occupation: Retired, prior business owner

Education: SWIC

Highlight your civic involvement: Present and past member volunteer, Senior Meals on Wheels Mascoutah Noon Lions, Rotary Club, Moose Chamber of Commerce, Men’s Jaycees, Main Street Organization, Mascoutah Improvement Association

Who are your top three campaign contributors? Self-funded

Why are you running? The reason I’m running for council is simple. To save the citizens money and be the citizens voice of reason on the council.

What is the top issue in your race and how would you address it? Growth is in my opinion the most important issue facing our community. Our town is growing. We must take an organized plan of development to keep our small town feel and attract new businesses.

Why should people vote for you? I’m an independent thinker, not one to follow. Having grown up in Mascoutah and having owned a hardware store in town and being general manager of one of the largest lumber companies with 80 employees in the metro St. Louis area, I can get things done. I have served on The Mascoutah City Council and on the St. Clair County Board. I’ve learned the inner workings of local government and what’s right and wrong with it. I have been the president, vice president and board member of many organizations in Mascoutah. Served on the county’s Judicial, Labor and Animal Control committees.

Our family moved here in 1964, 59 years ago. I’m 66 and have the time and desire to make Mascoutah the best. Both of my children attended Mascoutah schools and also live here. The future of Mascoutah holds growth. The new Boeing Production Facility, MidAmerica Airport along with Scott Air Force Base our city will expand leading to more opportunities for business and employment, offering more goods and services to the citizens. The city can’t continue making deals that will cost the taxpayers in the future. I will not vote to raise any taxes or fees period!

I will listen to the citizens’ concerns and respond back. I will serve the citizens. My contact info: 618-806-7514 email mbaker56@yahoo.com

Office seeking: Mascoutah City Council member

Are you an incumbent? No

Have you run for public office before? No

Occupation: Merchandise services manager and franchise owner

Education: Bachelor’s degree- forestry, parks and recreation, natural resource management and master’s degree- public administration/policy analysis

Highlight your civic involvement: Mascoutah Improvement Association member, Chairman- Mascoutah Homecoming Parade, Mascoutah Moose Lodge member

Who are your top three campaign contributors? None. This is a self-funded campaign.

Why are you running? I have a passion for community involvement and having a direct, positive impact on citizen’s quality of life within their community. I have 16 years of local government administration experience. Throughout my career, I have worked in City departments, administration, local government, lobbying agencies, and spent 8 ½ years as the city manager of Mascoutah.

Having been the city manager in this community, I have a unique insight of what can and cannot be done, the knowledge and ability to get things done, and to be able to explain to the citizens as to why. During my tenure as city manager from 2010-2018, we accomplished more infrastructure projects (streets, sidewalks, waterline and sewer improvements, park improvements) than ever before, all while maintaining a balanced budget and not increasing city taxes. In addition, we received millions of dollars in grant funds to help offset these infrastructure costs. I chose to run for city council to be able to continue serving the Mascoutah community.

What is the top issue in your race and how would you address it? There are two top issues in our community: Infrastructure improvements and utility costs. I would address our infrastructure improvements through strict and proper budget control, systematic planning, and pursue grant opportunities. I would address our utility costs through system analysis, budget control, and would pursue new source(s) of revenue to offset utility costs for our consumers without raising taxes or utility rates. It is the city’s job to address these issues with the best possible cost/benefit ratio and be fiscally responsible with taxpayer money.

Why should people vote for you? I want a better Mascoutah for all; no barriers, no divisions, and no lines in the sand. I have no agenda, I listen, I will tell you the truth, and I don’t play games. I truly believe I can use my 16 years of expertise to make our community a better place to live, work, and play.

I will utilize my experience, open communication skills, and my ability to navigate city administration and staff capabilities, community and political environments, and resident’s needs and wants to produce plausible, beneficial outcomes. I am the only candidate with the unique insight and understanding of city administration/staff, city council, and Mascoutah residents, as I have worked with, served as, or currently am a member of each. I would like to work together with the community to achieve the best possible Mascoutah. I would be proud to continue serving the Mascoutah community, this time as your city councilman.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? None

Why are you running? Over the years I’ve been a councilman roads have been improved, sidewalks built, new water lines installed, sewer lines replaced, seven new housing developments have been added, Boeing at Mid America is being built, many new businesses are to come to our city. Our population has increased over the last two census counts, and I would appreciate helping to make Mascoutah a wonderful place to work and raise your family.

What is the top issue in your race and how would you address it? Planned growth and development for our future. We have started planning for the future by restricting industry to the north of Fuesser Road, residential growth to the south and east are being explored, completion of infrastructure improvements are being developed and implemented, all this helps to improve our city.

Why should people vote for you? I am involved in all areas of the city, i.e. civic organizations and personal involvement. This is our city and I listen to citizens’ concerns and try every day to improve our city for the extended future. I would appreciate your vote to continue serving you.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? None

Why are you running? In our small community there always seems to be the same names that come up when it comes to the Village administration. I also feel as if some of our elected officials are not doing a very good job. Some Trustees have created a tough working environment for our village employees and I believe that is unfair.

What is the top issue in your race and how would you address it? I just want to see a positive change. Many board members treat this town as their own personal fiefdom. If elected I would do what I can to ensure that the town has a voice and that their voice is heard.

Why should people vote for you? I have nothing to gain from being elected as a Village Trustee. I have no agenda and no need for whatever assumed power some feel they get from elected office. Office seeking: O’Fallon Ward 2 Council member

Are you an incumbent? No

Have you run for public office before? No.

Occupation: Business owner – Hutchison Solutions. Previously served as O’Fallon Parks and Recreation director for 19 years.

Education: BS & MS+

Highlight your civic involvement:

I moved to O’Fallon in 2002 to become the Parks and Recreation Director. I have served on numerous Civic Boards such as OTHS Endowment Board; Education BEST Committee since its inception; Chair the Illinois Parks and Recreation State Association; IL Park Association Endowment Board; Attend 1st United Methodist Church & Christ Church; I am an avid supporter of O’Fallon Life Long Music Endowment. I also ran the O’Fallon Arts Council which provided public art and festivals in O’Fallon and I administered the O’Fallon Parks Foundation, which provided scholarships to youth who for summer camps and sports.to bring public art to O’Fallon.

I also founded the one of the most successful youth soccer clubs in the Metro East – KIXX Soccer and now the Metro Alliance making O’Fallon the leader in the development of student-athletes. I am also a soccer mom and have volunteered countless hours to support my own daughter’s teams for O’Fallon. Finally, I was part of the team that helped to bring HSHS St. Elizabeth’s to O’Fallon, creating new jobs, new opportunity and new partnerships in our city. I worked to secure a health and wellness partnership with hospital which has funded over $250,000 for underprivileged children so that they can participate in sports and recreation activities.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? To date, I have fully funded my campaign.

Why are you running? I am running because I have dedicated my life to public service. For nearly 20 years, I served the families of O’Fallon as their Parks and Recreation director until 2021. For the past year and a half, I have become a small business owner launching Hutchison Solutions which has afforded me the opportunity to work with other cities throughout Southern Illinois creating economic development, master park plans, and accelerating growth in to address the effect the COVID loss of businesses and shutdowns had on cities.

I am a mother of two daughters, who I raised with my late husband in O’Fallon because we knew it was a special place and I have seen them thrive. I was lucky enough to help create this special city as Parks and Recreation Director and I believe that our current administration is not addressing the pressing issues of our city.

I believe we can do better for our families, our businesses and our schools. As a Council Member, I will advocate for the following:

  • Solve stormwater flooding in Ward 2

  • Back our Police to make O’Fallon the safest city in the Metro-East

  • Protect home values by following the zoning of the city and not create special zones for special interests

  • Keep taxes low

  • Recruit new businesses to build a new source of revenue

  • Protect disabled veterans

  • Support our schools to address issues jointly

I am also running to bring civility and kindness back to our city council chambers. Every person deserves to be heard and every issue deserves to have the full attention of elected officials — not just the special interests of the mayor’s friends and family.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? In Ward 2, residents in Winding Creek and Deer Creek subdivision are experiencing stormwater damage that is threatening their homes. This has gone unaddressed by the city, even though they continue to spend millions of dollars addressing stormwater management issues on the presidential streets. I believe every stormwater issue should be addressed and when I am elected, it will be one of my top priorities to find a solution to this pressing problem.

In addition, the other top issues is the erosion of the retail tax base in O’Fallon is important to the city any my ward. The city lost over $1 million in revenue when Auffenburg moved to Shiloh. The city has done little to replace this revenue, other than raise the sales tax, which hurts the citizens of O’Fallon, especially during a national recession and supply issues which have driven the cost of everyday groceries up.

We need a council that will push the city to re-think it’s economic development strategies. The only new businesses that have opened in the last four years have been fast food restaurants and multi-family apartment complexes. Both of these do little to replace revenue lost from major retailers including the most recent RP Lumber that closed in March.

The economic health of O’Fallon is being threatened by a lack of leadership in the city with no vision beyond opening another coffee shop. We need major retail business and employers so that our city does not have to turn to property taxes to pay their bills.

Why should people vote for you? I helped to build the city of O’Fallon over the last two decades. I have a proven track record and know how to make government work for the people.

I have built over $50 million in construction projects in my career and have secured millions of dollars in grants to help fund projects that have led to the growth of this city.

I am the only candidate running who has helped grow O’Fallon. My efforts to build the Family Sports park led to the construction of three new hotels — TownPlace and Suites by Marriott, The Hampton Inn and the Fairfield Inn. The tax revenue generated by out of town guests attending tournaments and events at the park has exceeded expectations and the surplus is now funding the general revenue fund in O’Fallon.

I can and will make a difference for the citizens of Ward 2 by advocating for their needs with stormwater damage and protecting their home values by securing zoning that will not allow the special interests of the current administration to change zoning. And I will make sure we grow our business districts to bring back the lost revenue to our city to avoid raising taxes.

I am on a mission to grow, protect and make a lasting impact on my community.

Office seeking: Ward 2 alderperson (O’Fallon)

Are you an incumbent? Yes

Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought) Yes (Ward 2 alderperson)

Occupation: Professional development coordinator

Education: Bachelor’s of arts in business and communication

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: I have worked hard to build O’Fallon through service to others. My strong history of involvement and impact includes serving as Ward 2 alderperson (four years) where I am the vice-chairman for the Finance and Administration Committee and also serve on the Public Safety Committee. I volunteer as the city council liaison to the O’Fallon Public Library board and was selected and serve as one of two aldermen on a school collaboration committee working with O’Fallon schools to better understand opportunities for partnerships. I am also an honorary commander for Scott Air Force Base.

My involvement in community groups keeps me constantly engaged with residents. I serve as a board member on both the OTHS Endowment Fund and the District 90 Early Childhood Foundation. I also serve on an elected governing board for a Fortune 500 company. Collectively, these roles enable me to understand our community through a broad and unique lens that improves communication, increases collaboration and positively impacts decision-making.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? Did not answer.

Why are you running? I am running for re-election because my talents align with what O’Fallon needs right now: leaders with a vision, who are always asking “what’s next,” and who have a history of building meaningful relationships with residents, staff and community leaders. With $327 million in development over the last four years plus another $125 million in approved projects, we have great momentum and I am the right fit for ensuring future developments enhance our city and diversify our employment base.

I am proud of my service to our ward; when there have been rezoning projects in Ward 2 and city-wide topics where the ward residents expressed their desires, I voted in support of the ward, protecting home values and being the voice for residents. I voted to reduce property taxes and supported the Build O’Fallon Fund which thoughtfully accumulates reserves in order to fund projects that residents have identified as important to them.

We have balanced new developments with strategic re-investments in established parts of town that have led to significant revitalization in our Downtown District, creating a new sense of community and supporting local businesses.

I enjoy and excel at representing the ward while also considering the needs of the city.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? O’Fallon has a successful history of building up our retail and sports tourism base, which attracts visitors from all over the region. We will continue to make investments in those areas. And I strongly believe that our next economic engine relies on our ability to capitalize on our unique location, prime industrial real estate and talented work force to accelerate strategic business opportunities. My 16 years with the Chamber of Commerce, first as a board member and now as a staff member, have provided me with access to insights and community leaders with great ideas and connections to ensure we attract the next generation of businesses.

Why should people vote for you? I represent the ward well and I am the most qualified for the leadership the city needs right now. I excel in areas that residents consistently prioritize, including public safety and economic development.

In addition, I have built my professional career on sharing knowledge and empowering citizens to engage with our community. I understand what residents value because I serve alongside them throughout the community. These experiences have enabled me to build relationships and allowed me to demonstrate my proven leadership that focuses on vision and inspiring people.

This is why I continue to be the best choice for Ward 2. I would appreciate your vote to continue in service to others!

Office seeking: City of O’Fallon - Ward 3 alderperson

Are you an incumbent? Yes

Have you run for public office before? No. I was appointed this past May to fill the seat left vacant from the passing of Alderman (Kevin) Hagarty.

Occupation: Compliance & ethics legal assistant

Education: I graduated from McKendree University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology emphasis criminal justice.

Highlight your civic involvement: Before being appointed to city council, I served on the city of O’Fallon Historical Preservation Commission for six years, serving as chair from 2020-2022. I currently serve on the board for the Friends of the O’Fallon Public Library. I am also a member of the O’Fallon Historical Society (vice-president 2019), O’Fallon Sportsmen’s Club, O’Fallon CityFest Planning Committee and the O’Fallon Garden Club.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? My campaign was self-funded.

Why are you running? I believe that all residents deserve to be represented by someone that has a true heart for service and works hard for them. When I was appointed in May, I took my oath very seriously and strive daily to be the representation residents deserve. Currently, I feel that O’Fallon’s past, present and future are all coming together in Ward 3 and I believe I am the best candidate to represent this area of O’Fallon at this time.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? I think, for Ward 3 specifically, the ongoing infill projects are something that will keep coming up in the next few years. I feel that these projects are important and need to be looked at very closely as they could greatly impact the surrounding established neighborhood. I want to make sure the concerns of the residents are heard and addressed as much as possible.

Why should people vote for you? In the past 10 months, I have formed a great relationship with Ward 3 co-alderperson Roy Carney and we work together as a team. I always make myself available to the residents and am able to communicate with them through a variety of methods to get them answers as quickly as possible. So, if you want an alderperson with boundless energy, who is always ready to help, who carefully researches issues, respectfully listens to all viewpoints, and deeply cares about residents then please vote Fohne on April 4.

Highlight your civic involvement: I was first appointed alderman to represent the 3rd Ward. Who are your top three campaign contributors? Myself, Realtors PAC, Jan & Ron Gilreath

Why are you running? O’Fallon is a great place to work, live, and raise a family. Unfortunately, in recent years, a lack of vision has put what makes O’Fallon special in jeopardy.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? When a bad project put our neighborhood at risk of becoming a thoroughfare, I helped unite our Ward, stopped the project, and kept our community safe. With your support, I will continue to work to restore a spirit of collaboration, transparency, and accountability to our O’Fallon government.

Why should people vote for you? I’ve dedicated my life to public service, first in emergency services and law enforcement, and now as a local leader in my hometown. Why are you running? To serve the community and use my talents and experience to help my neighbors those across the street and those across the city. I want to continue to represent the people of O’Fallon and work to address issues and improve the quality of life for residents.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?

One of the most significant challenges facing an Alderman is ensuring that the city is moving forward while also preserving its unique character and sense of community. As an experienced leader, I have a proven track record of balancing economic growth with community values. I will continue to work closely with community stakeholders to ensure that any new development in the area is done thoughtfully and with input from the community.

Another challenge is managing the city’s finances responsibly. As a small business owner and HR Executive, I have extensive experience in managing budgets and ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently. I will work to ensure that the city’s finances are managed effectively, and that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.

If re-elected, one of my top priorities will be improving infrastructure in the Ward 4area. Specifically, I would focus on repairing and maintaining roads, sidewalks, and other critical infrastructure. This will not only improve the safety and quality of life for residents, but it will also help attract new businesses and residents to the area.

Why should people vote for you?

I firmly believe that I am the most qualified candidate for the position of Ward 4 Alderman in O’Fallon. My focus is on my own qualifications and achievements, rather than those of my opponent. As Alderman I have and will continue to prioritize policies that promote fiscal responsibility and advocate for the safety and well-being of our community.

I have a proven track record of public service as a District 90 School Board Member and O’Fallon Township Trustee, and I have a deep understanding of the issues facing our community. As a Human Resources Executive and small business owner, I have the financial management skills and experience necessary to manage the city’s finances responsibly and promote economic growth that benefits everyone.

I am committed to serving the residents of Ward 4 and ensuring that their voices are heard. I will work tirelessly to find solutions that work for everyone and meet the needs of our community. With my experience, dedication, and passion for serving others, I am confident that I am the most qualified candidate for the job.

Are you an incumbent? Yes

Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought) Shiloh Village trustee

Occupation: Paralegal

Education: Associate’s degree in paralegal studies

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: Volunteering at the Shiloh Picnic, attending village hosted events

Who are your top three campaign contributors? My mother, who is a former trustee, Tina Warchol is my biggest contributor. She dedicates her time to my campaign. My husband, Spencer, who supports me unconditionally.

Why are you running? My family has lived in the village of Shiloh for over 150 years. My grandmother, my father and I were all raised in Shiloh. I am currently raising my son, Alexander, in my family home. He will be the fourth generation of the Warchol family to grow up in the village. I am running to be involved in the process of making the best decisions for the village for the generations to come.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? The biggest issue in this election is whether to designate $1.8 million to building a police station, or to keep those funds to assist in providing homes that have septic tanks with sewers. When the village sold the sewer, the board informally agreed to use those funds to assist in providing sewers for residents in the village that do not have them. At this point, I don’t think there is enough information on either topic. There are many unanswered questions as far as the legality of using the funds for sewers, the participation of Illinois American Water, a location for a police station, possible design of a police station, etc. I would like to see a new police station built as well as see homes provided with sewers, and I think getting all the questions answered can make both of those things happen.

Why should people vote for you? Shiloh is my home and I have a genuine love for my community. I always keep Shiloh’s best interests at heart with every decision that I make as a trustee. I do my research on agenda topics or issues going on in the village and make the decision that is right for the village and people who reside within it.

Occupation: Attendance Officer & Private Investigator

Education: N/A

Who are your top three campaign contributors? N/A

Why are you running? We have an excellent board and president/mayor in Smithton who have worked together to help improve our community and its resources. Currently, we are updating our park’s trail and connecting the path to Southwoods, Tall Timbers, Stone Gate, and Wildwood so that our entire community is more connected and accessible. In this way, our residents can benefit from our park, local businesses, and amenities more easily. It is this spirit of community building, value creation, and opportunity that motivates me to run. Smithton is a wonderful community, and I am committed to its continued success.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? Bringing the community together, whether physically with expanded access or symbolically with new businesses, activities, and annual events, is the top issue. Smithton is a wonderful community with kind, hardworking families. Keeping our village safe, clean, and growing at a comfortable pace (while maintaining our small-town charm) allows families to thrive and be proud to call Smithton home.

Why should people vote for you? For the past four years, I have enjoyed being of service to my fellow residents of Smithton. From updating outdated squad cars and street department vehicles to welcoming new restaurants and businesses to the community, our board has worked together to help our community. We already have plans to clean and restore our famous water tower, and modernizing our Main Street remains a top priority. It has been a privilege to serve our village residents, and I hope to continue our team’s efforts.

Why are you running? Enjoy being involved in the community in which I reside. I believe I bring experience and responsive leadership in helping guide the village forward in a positive manner.

I managed a $26 million budget while warden of Southwestern Illinois prison and bring this skill in helping keep the village budget a responsible work tool.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? I am chairman of Public Safety overseeing the police and fire departments.

I’m always thinking of the safety of our citizens and our schools which contain our children. My first priority is to keep the police and fire departments fully staffed and up to date with equipment and training. When our citizens call for help, I want that help to be able to respond for those in need. Being prepared is paramount.

I also have set forth goals and training scenarios for all our first responders to keep prepared to assist at our schools. I pray this is never needed but preparing to always be ready is needed to protect our children.

Why should people vote for you? My desire to keep being involved with our community in many ways shows my commitment to Swansea. I’ve been here 10 years and love this community.

My experience and past positions of leadership help give me insight in being a servant to the citizens.

I believe in the Rotary Club model of “Service Above Self” and try to live it.

Are you an incumbent? No

Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought) Yes for village clerk

Occupation: Co-owner of an online family business and village clerk

Education: Associates of arts from SWIC, associates of science from SWIC, bachelor of science in biochemistry from St. Louis University, master of arts in biology from St. Louis University in progress

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: I have been involved in volunteer work in the village of Swansea. I was a Swansea Police Explorer. I have assisted with the Swansea Santa House, Christmas Parade, Swansea Police and Fire Youth Academy, Swansea Halloween Event and Citizen’s Academy.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? I am completely self-funded.

Why are you running? I am a third-generation Swansea resident who was inspired by my parent’s decades of service to the village of Swansea as law enforcement. I want to serve my community like my parents did but in a different role. I would like to promote and inspire positive change in the village to help Swansea reach its full potential.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? There are three main facets of my campaign. Firstly I want to ensure Swansea’s police and fire departments are properly funded and supported so they can provide us with safe schools and safe streets. One of Swansea’s greatest strengths is the safety we provide to our residents through our police and fire efforts. I want to make sure our public safety worker’s needs are consistently met to ensure Swansea remains a great place to reside. Secondly I want to promote consistent economic development in the village. There is much opportunity and capacity for economic development that stimulates the economy, provides jobs and improves quality of life. This can be helped by promoting businesses to open locations in Swansea and by making Swansea a more business friendly community. Finally I want to support equal representation among all areas of Swansea especially those that have traditionally not had a voice. All residents of Swansea deserve to have their voice heard and be represented by their elected officials. Elected officials need to listen to people from these underrepresented areas to understand the problems they face and expediently provide the support they need. I desire to hear the problems these residents and their families face so I can better address their issues and needs.

Why should people vote for you? I was born and raised in Swansea and I have deep roots in this community. I enjoy volunteering in my community and helping its residents in any way I can. I would like to serve the village in a new capacity to promote economic growth and ensure all Swansea residents have their voice heard by their government. I have the passion and energy to pursue these goals for the good of the village.

Who are your top three campaign contributors? Self-funded

Why are you running? My eyes were opened to a leadership void on the board during the process regarding a development neighboring my mom’s century farm on Thouvenot Lane. I am for a safe, vibrant, and growing community, but also for a government that is accountable and communicates with its residents/taxpayers before decisions are made. Also, a government that spends and invests your money wisely.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? Accountability to residents/taxpayers and other affected local constituents, not to outside interests. During my interaction with the board of trustees during the failed annexation and zoning process for Next Chapter Neighborhoods at 1446 Thouvenot Lane (next to Bristol Hill subdivision), it felt like longtime residents/taxpayers and the potentially impacted school district (Central 104) was given little to no consideration, while the red carpet was laid out to an outside developer pitching the village on the project. It always seemed like there were hidden interests that were never explained to the public as to why this development made sense for taxpayers. It simply did not make sense, and after a long process the developer withdrew its application and went to a neighboring municipality that also has initially rejected the proposal.

As a policy, I will go above and beyond to make sure clear, factual and widespread communication happens on the front-end of a major project/decision that could have long-standing implications for our village and larger community. Similarly, I will have a policy of open and authentic listening to concerns raised in order to make the best informed decision that people on both sides can point to and say, ‘It was done the right way.’

I will follow the principle of ‘the right way’ and accountability on budgeting, taxes, spending, development, safety, personnel, code and zoning enforcement, public services, transparency and anything else I am charged to do/consider for the village residents.

Why should people vote for you? My campaign slogan is Faith, Integrity and On Your Side. This election is not about me, but rather the future of our village. I ask you give me an opportunity to make a difference. Thank you. Brian Douglas Thouvenot, candidate village of Swansea trustee
